Paavola
Paavola is a former municipality of Finland, now part of Siikajoki. Its center is located by the Siikajoki river. Though lacking rail transport connections, the settlement lies in the crossroads of routes 86 and 807. In 1973, Paavola was consolidated with the neighboring municipality of Revonlahti to form the municipality of Ruukki. Ruukki in turn was consolidated with Siikajoki in 2007. Väinö Veikko Sakari Huhtala (24 December 1935 – 18 June 2016) was a Finnish former cross-country skier who competed in the early 1960s. Raahe (; ; ) is a town in Finland, located on the western coast of the country. Raahe is situated in the North Ostrobothnia region, along the Gulf of Bothnia. Bothnian Bay
The Bothnian Bay or Bay of Bothnia (; ) is the northernmost part of the Gulf of Bothnia, which is in turn the northern part of the Baltic Sea. The land holding the bay is still rising after the weight of ice-age glaciers has been removed, and within 2,000 years the bay will be a large freshwater lake since its link to the south Kvarken is mostly less than deep. The bay today is fed by several large rivers, and is relatively unaffected by tides, so has low salinity. It freezes over each year for up to six months. Compared to other parts of the Baltic, it has little plant or animal life. Battle Of Siikajoki
The Battle of Siikajoki () was fought between Swedish and Russian troops on 18 April 1808 at Siikajoki, approximately 60 km south of Uleåborg, Swedish Finland (today Oulu, Republic of Finland). During the first stage of the Finnish War, the Swedish commander Wilhelm Mauritz Klingspor had decided to retreat from southern Finland, so that the Swedes would gain time, and more troops could be moved to Finland via Tornio. The retreat was also made in an effort to delay battles until the seas thawed, and to reserve troops in case the Danes took the opportunity to attack Sweden. The Battle of Pyhäjoki, which had been fought two days earlier, was one of the first skirmishes of the war, but Siikajoki was the first major attempt to stop the advancing Russians.
