''Resurrection'' () is a 1944 Italian drama film directed by Flavio Calzavara and starring Doris Duranti, Claudio Gora and Germana Paolieri. It is an adaptation of the 1899 work ''Resurrection (Tolstoy novel), Resurrection'', the final novel by the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy. It was one of a significant number of Italian films based on works of Russian literature made during the era.Testa p.6 It was made at the Scalera Studios in Rome. Resurrection (Tolstoy Novel)
''Resurrection'' ( pre-reform Russian: ; post-reform , also translated as ''The Awakening''), first published in December 1899, was the last novel written by Leo Tolstoy. The book is the final of his major long fiction works published in his lifetime. Tolstoy intended the novel as a panoramic view of Russia at the end of the 19th century from the highest to the lowest levels of society and as an exposition of the injustice of man-made laws and the hypocrisy of the institutionalized church. The novel also explores the economic philosophy of Georgism, of which Tolstoy had become a very strong advocate towards the end of his life, and explains the theory in detail. The publication of ''Resurrection'' led to Tolstoy's excommunication by the Holy Synod from the Russian Orthodox Church in 1901. Tina Lattanzi (born Annunziata Concetta Costantini; 5 December 1897 – 25 October 1997) was an Italian actress and voice actress. Biography A native of Licenza and the daughter of Ercole Costantini and Geltrude Montori, Lattanzi began her acting career in 1922 when she met Vittorio De Sica, who in turn, introduced her to Tatyana Pavlova, who coached her into acting. Lattanzi was mainly active on stage during the 1920s before making her screen debut in 1930 and she was well known for her portrayals of women of noble birth. In 1954, Lattanzi began focusing her attention on television. Because of her drawl, persuasive voice, she also turned to the Cooperativa Doppiatori Cinematografici during the 1940s. Matilde Tescher, professionally known as Tilde Teldi, was an Italian theatre and silent film actress. Life and career The daughter of a German opera singer, at a very young age Teldi became a pupil of Luigi Monti at the Accademia dei filodrammatici. She made her stage debut in 1895, and the following year was chosen by Eleonora Duse to be part of her company, with which she performed in France, Germany and Russia. Later she was part of the Compagnia del Teatro d'arte in Turin and of 's company.
