Resurgence (magazine)
''Resurgence & Ecologist'' is a British bi-monthly magazine covering environmental issues, engaged activism, philosophy, arts and ethical living. In 1973 – and for the next 43 years – the Editor-in-Chief was former Jainism, Jain monk and author Satish Kumar. Kumar stepped aside from his editing role to become Editor Emeritus on his 80th birthday in 2016. The current editor is Susan Clark. The magazine combines the former ''Resurgence'' magazine, edited by Kumar, with ''The Ecologist'', which in recent years has been published online only. ''Resurgence & Ecologist'' is published by The Resurgence Trust, an educational charity registered in England and Wales and based at The Resurgence Centre, Hartland, Devon. John Papworth
John Papworth (12 December 1921 – 4 July 2020) was an English clergyman, writer and Activism, activist. Throughout his life, he campaigned for the causes of antimilitarism, Localism (politics), localism and ecologism. He founded Resurgence & Ecologist, ''Resurgence'' magazine and wrote in numerous other journals. In 1997, his controversial views on shoplifting in supermarkets attracted international attention. Biography Born in Shoreditch on 12 December 1921, John Papworth is the natural son of Jane Amelia Papworth, a Maid, housemaid. Unable to support him, she left John to an orphanage in Hornchurch, Essex. She later married and had three other children, but he hadn't much contact with them. He never knew his father. He described his living conditions in the orphanage as "very miserable". Sir Antony Mark David Gormley (born 30 August 1950) is a British sculptor. Schumacher College was based on the Dartington Hall estate near Totnes, Devon, England, and offered ecology-centred degree programmes, short courses and horticultural programmes from 1991 until 2024. It was attended by students from all over the world. Description The college was co-founded in 1990 by Satish Kumar, John Lane, Stephan Harding, Anne Phillips, and others. They were inspired by E. F. Schumacher, the economist, environmentalist and author of ''Small Is Beautiful'', which argued that the growth of capitalism came at a very high human and planetary cost.
