Haiti
Haiti, officially the Republic of Haiti, is a country on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea, east of Cuba and Jamaica, and south of the Bahamas. 2006 Haitian General Election
General elections were held in Haiti on 7 February 2006 to elect the replacements for the interim government of Gérard Latortue, which had been put in place after the 2004 Haiti rebellion. The elections were delayed four times, having originally been scheduled for October and November 2005. Charles Henri Baker
Charles-Henri Jean-Marie Baker (born June 3, 1955) is a Haitian industrialist and presidential candidate. He is a former member of the Group of 184. Baker was a candidate for president in Haiti's 2006 and 2010 elections. Early and personal life Baker was born in Port-au-Prince. His father Édouard Baker was a mulatto who was a prominent engineer, agronomist, well-known football player, and son of an Episcopalian missionary from England, who married an Afro-Haitian woman. His mother, Louise Barranco, was a businesswoman from a light-skinned mulatto elite family, who was the founder of the first supermarket chain in Haiti and whose father was a trader. Baker has two brothers and three sisters. After completing his elementary education in Haiti, he traveled to the United States. 2015 Haitian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Haiti on 25 October 2015, alongside local elections and the second round of the legislative elections. Incumbent President Michel Martelly was constitutionally barred from running. As no candidate received a majority of the vote in the first round, a runoff was to be held on 27 December 2015. On 22 December the Conseil Electoral Provisoire (CEP) announced that the runoff has been postponed indefinitely. However, on 1 January 2016 President Michel Martelly announced that the runoff would be held on 17 January, but on 7 January the President changed the date to 24 January. On 20 January, Jude Célestin issued a statement that calls "whatever the person who will participate in this January 24 unoff is a traitor to the Nation". ''Le Nouvelliste'' () is a French-language daily newspaper printed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and distributed throughout the country, particularly the capital and 18 of the country's major cities. The paper was founded in 1898 by Guillaume Chéraquit originally under the name ''Le Matin'', to become ''Le Nouvelliste'' 15 months later. Printing was entrusted to Chéraquit's friend Henri Chauvet. Today, ''Le Nouvelliste'' is Haiti's oldest and largest daily newspaper. The first issue of ''Le Nouvelliste'' was published on August 1, 1899. It consisted of four pages and three columns.
