Resil Mojares
Resil Buagas Mojares (born September 4, 1943) is a Filipino historian and critic of Philippine literature best known as for his books on Philippine history. He is acclaimed by various writers and critics as the ''Visayan Titan of Letters'', due to his immense contribution to Visayan literature. He was recognized in 2018 as a National Artist of the Philippines for Literature - a conferment which represents the Philippine state's highest recognition for artists. Early life and education Mojares was born to parents who were public school teachers on September 4, 1943, in Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte. Mojares has a bachelor's degree in English, a master's degree in Literature and postgraduate studies all at the University of San Carlos, as well as a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of the Philippines Diliman. Polanco, officially the Municipality of Polanco (; Subanen: ''Benwa Polanco''; Chavacano: ''Municipalidad de Polanco''; ), is a municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines. Pedro Paterno
Pedro Alejandro Paterno y de Vera Ignacio (February 27, 1857 – April 26, 1911), 993 pages was a Filipino politician. He was also a poet and a novelist. His intervention on behalf of the Spanish led to the signing of the Pact of Biak-na-Bato on December 14, 1897, an account of which he published in 1910. Among his other works include the first novel written by a native Filipino, '' Ninay'' (1885), and the first Filipino collection of poems in Spanish, '' Sampaguitas y otras poesías varias'' ("Jasmines and Other Various Poems"), published in Madrid in 1880. Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit (born October 3, 1981) is a Filipino female professional pool player from Mandaue, Cebu. Amit is a two-time WPA Women's World Ten-ball champion and the first Filipina pool player to become WPA Women's World Nine-ball champion in 2024. Max Surban
Max Surban is a Filipino Cebuano singer-songwriter. He has been given the "King of Visayan Song". Although known primarily for his singing of novelty songs, he has also recorded romantic ballads. Like his fellow Visayan, the Bol-anon singer Yoyoy Villame, Max Surban has also become famous for his singing of so-called ''novelty songs''. On several occasions, both Yoyoy Villame and Max Surban have appeared together on stage and even recorded together with a few albums. They were also in the ''Pamilya Ukay-OKay'' comedy TV show in Cebu. Max wrote most of his own songs and, at the time of this writing, has made more than 30 albums. Tomas "Tommy" de la Rama Osmeña (; born July 26, 1948) is a Filipino politician who was recently elected as the Vice Mayor of Cebu City in 2025 elections. Vicente Yap Sotto, Sr. (; April 18, 1877 – May 28, 1950) was a Filipino playwright, journalist, and politician who served as a Senate of the Philippines, senator from 1946 to 1950.
