Repentigny
Repentigny () is an off-island suburbs, off-island suburb of Montreal, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is located North Shore (Laval), north of the city on the lower end of the L'Assomption River, and on the Saint Lawrence River. Repentigny and Charlemagne, Quebec, Charlemagne were the first towns off the eastern tip of the Island of Montreal. Repentigny is part of the Lanaudière region. History It was founded in 1670 by Jean-Baptiste Legardeur de Repentigny, Jean-Baptiste Le Gardeur, son of Seigneur Pierre Le Gardeur. During the town's first 250 years, Repentigny was only inhabited by a few hundred peasants, or habitants, and was an agricultural community. In 1677, the first population census only shows 30 inhabitants. Its first mayor was Benjamin Moreau 1855. Repentigny merged with its neighbouring city of Le Gardeur, Quebec, Le Gardeur on June 1, 2002. The city's area grew from 29 to 69 km2 and the population grew by 70%. Le Gardeur, Quebec
Le Gardeur () was a city in southwestern Quebec, Canada. Since the 2002 municipal reorganization in Quebec, it has been a district of the city of Repentigny. It is on the L'Assomption River in the Regional County Municipality of L'Assomption and is connected to Montreal by Route 138, Autoroute 40, and Via Rail on the Canadian National rail line. The rural parish of Saint-Paul-l'Ermite was established in 1856. The municipality of the same name was created in 1973 over part of the original territory. It changed its name to Le Gardeur five years later. (Pierre Le Gardeur, Sieur de Repentigny, was the region's first feudal lord, under letters-patent granted in 1647 to the Compagnie des cent associés.) The parish and its church are still active. Nicolas Dufour (born June 1, 1987) is a Canadian politician, who has been mayor of Repentigny, Quebec since the 2021 mayoral election. Monique Pauzé is a Canadian politician who was elected to the House of Commons in the 2015 election from the electoral district of Repentigny. Jean-Baptiste Legardeur De Repentigny
Jean-Baptiste Legardeur de Repentigny (; 1632-1709), was born at Thury-Harcourt in Normandy in 1632, and died in Montreal on September 9, 1709. He became a lieutenant 1688 and a half-pay captain 1692 in the Troupes de la Marine, and a garde-marine in the French Navy 1694. He retired with a pension from the military in 1702 and installet as a member of the Conseil Souverain in 1705. Jean-Baptiste Legardeur arrived in Canada in 1636 with his parents. He became associated with the fur trade at an early age. On October 6, 1663, he was elected the first mayor of Quebec City. He occupied this office for only one month, since the Conseil Souverain considered it unnecessary. Legardeur commanded volunteer companies against the Iroquois in 1665 and 1666. The Assomption River (in French ''Rivière l'Assomption'' , named after the Assumption of Mary) is the most important waterway in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada. It is over long, and has a drainage basin (watershed) of . Its source is the Mont Tremblant massif. Charlemagne () is a city in the Canadian province of Québec on the north shore of the Rivière des Prairies, northeast of the city of Montréal’s downtown core. As of 2021, the population was 6,302. The Chemin du Roy (; French for "King's Highway" or "King's Road") is a historic road along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River in Quebec. The road begins in Repentigny and extends almost eastward towards Quebec City, its eastern terminus. Most of the Chemin du Roy today follows along the present-day Quebec Route 138. The expressway that replaces both Route 138 and the Chemin du Roy through most of its course is Quebec Autoroute 40. Pascale Déry (born 1976) is a Canadian politician. She sought the Conservative Party of Canada nomination for Mount Royal in the 2015 Canadian federal election, losing to Robert Libman.
