René Vidal (politician)
René Vidal León (7 April 1931 – 12 May 2012) was a Bolivian politician and trade unionist who served as a party-list member of the Chamber of Deputies from Chuquisaca from 2010 until his death in 2012. He previously served on the Sucre Municipal Council from 2000 to 2004. Vidal spent his early career as a laborer in the petroleum industry, during which time he became active as a representative of the sector's workers' unions. After retiring, he dedicated himself to commercial transport, heading multiple local and regional drivers' unions in the Chuquisaca Department. Elected to the Sucre Municipal Council in 1999, Vidal continued to be active in politics throughout the 2000s. In 2009, as a product of the drivers' union's alliance with National Convergence, he was elected to represent Chuquisaca in the Chamber of Deputies. 1999 Bolivian Municipal Elections
Municipal elections were held in Bolivia, on December 5, 1999, in all 311 municipalities across the country. The elections marked a milestone in the continuous deterioration of the political influence of the traditional parties. In 23 municipalities the mayors were elected through direct popular vote, in other municipalities the mayors were elected by the respective municipal council. The National Unity Front ( Spanish: ''Frente de Unidad Nacional'') is a political party in Bolivia. It was founded in late 2003 by Samuel Jorge Doria Medina Auza, who had broken with the Revolutionary Left Movement earlier that year. It has 36 members of the Chamber of Deputies in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly. Nationalist Democratic Action () is a right-wing political party in Bolivia led by Óscar Daza Márquez. ADN was founded on March 23, 1979 by the military dictator Hugo Banzer after he stepped down from power. As leader of the ADN, Banzer ran in the 1979, 1980, 1985, 1989, 1993, and 1997 presidential elections.
