Renju International Federation
The Renju International Federation (RIF) is an international organization which was founded in Stockholm, Sweden on August 8, 1988. The main purpose of the federation is to unite all the Renju and gomoku national federations all over the world, organize international tournaments such as World Championships, together with other activities in renju and gomoku, and spread renju activities in the world. The federation carry out the General Assembly every two years. The Central Committee The Central Committee is responsible to the current status of the Renju International Federation, together with the activities of the officials of the Federation. According to the status, there are 6 positions in the Central Committee. Members The Renju International Federation was founded in 1988 by 3 founder members: Japan, Soviet Union and Sweden. Renju
''Renju'' (Japanese: 連珠) is a professional variant of gomoku. It was named renju by Japanese journalist Ruikou Kuroiwa (黒岩涙香) on December 6, 1899 in a Japanese newspaper ''Yorozu chouhou'' (萬朝報). The name "renju" comes from the Japanese language, and means "connected pearls" in Japanese. The game is played with black and white stones on a 15×15 gridded go board. The rule of renju weakens the advantages for the first player (Black) in gomoku by adding special restrictions for Black. World Championships In Renju
There are several world championships in Renju organized by the Renju International Federation, including World Championship, Women World Championships, Team World Championships, Youth World Championships and Correspondence World Championships. World Championships Renju World Championships have occurred every second year, since 1989. The opening rule was Yamaguchi from 2009 to 2015, and has been changed to Soosõrv-8 since 2017. Tunnet Taimla
Tunnet Taimla (21 June 1988 – 9 February 2023) was an Estonian Renju player. Career Taimla started to play Renju in 1995 at the age of 7. After four years of studying, he won the Youth European Championship (1999) among boys 14 years and under. Later, he won the Youth European Championship twice, in 2001 (among boys 14 years and under) and in 2005 (among boys 18 years and under). In 2002 he achieved the title of Youth World Champion (among boys 14 years and under). Since childhood he has taken part in adult tournaments as well, eventually managing to achieve significant results. In 2002 he took part in the Team World Championship as a member of Estonian team which scored 2nd place. Several months later he took part in a European Renju Championship (2002) and achieved silver medal. RIF Rating List
RIF rating list is an official ranking system maintained by the Renju International Federation (RIF), to indicate the rankings of Renju players all over the world. The rating system was established in General Assembly 1995 of RIF. Games between Renju players in formal tournaments are counted in the calculation of the ranking list, including World Championships, European Championships, National Championships and some other important tournaments. The RIF rating list is usually updated daily. The ratings are maintained by the Qualification Commission of RIF. According to the qualification system of the World Renju Championship, all the players with at least 10 games with established players, and within the top-20 of the RIF rating list, have the tickets to take part in the qualification tournament of the World Renju Championship.
