Renfrew Football Club was a Scottish association football, football team located in the town of Renfrew. History The club was founded in 1875, with 30 members in its first season. The club's first recorded match was a 1–0 home win against Arthurlie F.C., Arthurlie in February 1876. Renfrew entered the Scottish Cup every season from 1876-77 Scottish Cup, 1876–77 to 1889-90 Scottish Cup, 1889–90. The club's second entry, in 1877-78 Scottish Cup, 1877–78, saw it reach the fifth round, albeit in unusual circumstances. The club won its first round tie at Pollokshaws F.C., Pollokshaws by default, the home side walking off the pitch while 2–0 down in protest at a refereeing decision. Jimmy Douglas (Scottish Footballer)
James Douglas (3 September 1859 – 13 September 1919) was a Scottish footballer who played in the English Football League for Blackburn Rovers. The first football club to sign Douglas was Paisley Institution. There appear to be no records about this club. In 1879 he was signed by hometown team Renfrew (which existed from 1875 until 1891). In 1880, Douglas became the club's first and only international, playing for Scotland in an international friendly against Wales which Scotland won 5–1. Douglas left Renfrew in 1880 and headed south to England (meaning he was no longer eligible for further Scotland Cap (sport) under the conventions of the time). There he joined Barrow Rangers (not today's Barrow Rangers), but after a short spell he signed for Blackburn Rovers.
