''Renaissance'' is the ninth solo studio album by American musician Marcus Miller. It was released on May 28, 2012 through Concord Jazz. Recording sessions took place at Sear Sound in New York City with additional recording at Hannibal Studio in Santa Monica, California, Santa Monica and at the Music Shed in New Orleans. Federico González Peña (born c. 5 February 1966) is a Uruguayan-Argentine jazz pianist and keyboardist. After being taught by the renowned classical pianist Antonio De Raco, he moved to the United States in 1984 to pursue his studies at the Berklee College of Music, and has since played in numerous groups. Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan (born November 21, 1948, in San Diego) is an American musician and songwriter. He is a founding member of the American funk band War. Jordan had a number of roles over the years, acting as vocalist and playing guitar, piano, synthesizer, and percussion. Harold Ray Brown
Harold Ray Brown (born March 17, 1946) is a founding member of War, an American funk band in the 1970s to 2000s. Harold had a number of roles over the years, acting as drummer, percussionist, vocalist, and bandleader. Brown is the oldest of six children, and the only one in his family to pursue music. He was introduced to music at the First Lutheran Church in Downtown Long Beach. Beginning with the congas, Brown progressed to violin while in elementary school, and took up drums in junior high. He turned down a full scholarship to Valparaiso University in 1964 in order to pursue music. Brown was rooted in the very beginnings of War. In 1962, he met Howard E. "Slippin' into Darkness" is a song written and performed in 1971 by War. The song was produced by Jerry Goldstein. A live version of the song was featured as the B-side to their 1974 single "Ballero". Background This song is an unusual blues form with the first lines being repeated in an African and Latin rhythm. The song is from the perspective of someone whose friend's life was taken away, who withdraws from reality, having to pay the consequences. Because of the song's length in the album version, at 6:59, the single radio edit version of 3:59 omits the slower introduction plus the second verse of the song. Rubén Blades Bellido de Luna (born July 16, 1948), known professionally as Rubén Blades (, but in Panama and within the family), is a Panamanian musician, singer, composer, actor, activist, and politician, performing musically most often in the salsa, and Latin jazz genres. Maurice "Mobetta" Brown (born January 6, 1981) originally from Harvey, Illinois is a Grammy Award-winning American jazz trumpeter, producer and composer. As a member of Tedeschi Trucks Band, he shared the 2011 Grammy for Best Blues Album ('' Revelator''). Biography Brown was born in Harvey, Illinois and grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago. He met Wynton Marsalis in the 8th grade while performing at a seminar attended by Marsalis.
