Remains (Alkaline Trio Album)
''Remains'' is a 2007 compilation album by American punk band Alkaline Trio, collecting B-sides, rarities, and unreleased tracks from 2000 to 2006. It is their second such compilation, following Alkaline Trio, which collected tracks from 1996 to 1999. Contents The album is a collection of 22 tracks that the band has recorded for various compilations, EPs, B-sides and international releases. The disc also includes three new live tracks from a 2006 concert at Avalon in Los Angeles. Vocalist/guitarist, Matt Skiba describes the collection as "an unintentional sort of bookend for our career thus far." A DVD that includes 45 minutes of material, including all the band's videos from '' From Here to Infirmary'', '' Good Mourning'', and ''Crimson'', accompanies the disc. Included is exclusive B-roll and behind-the-scenes footage from the band's live shows. Release and reception On November 6, 2006, ''Remains'' was announced for release. Alkaline Trio
Alkaline Trio is an American punk rock band from Chicago. The band's current members are Matt Skiba (guitar, vocals), Dan Andriano (bass, vocals), and Atom Willard (drums). Founded in late 1996 by Skiba, bassist Rob Doran, and drummer Glenn Porter, Alkaline Trio released its debut single, "Sundials (song), Sundials", in 1997. Following its release, Doran departed from the band and was replaced by Andriano, who occupied the role of co-lead vocalist alongside Skiba. The band subsequently recorded an EP, ''For Your Lungs Only'' (1998), and its debut studio album, ''Goddamnit'' (1998). Following the release of the band's second album, ''Maybe I'll Catch Fire'' (2000), Porter left the band and was replaced by Mike Felumlee for its subsequent album, ''From Here to Infirmary'' (2001). "Sadie" is a song by American rock band, Alkaline Trio. The song was initially released on April 20, 2004, as part of band's split album with One Man Army, and is notable for being included on multiple major releases throughout their discography. The song was written by Matt Skiba, Dan Andriano, and Derek Grant. Background "Sadie" was written by Skiba while the band was on tour in support of their 2003 album, '' Good Mourning''. ''BYO Split Series Volume V'' is a split album released in 2004 as the fifth entry in BYO Records '' BYO Split Series''. The album features 12 songs from the two punk bands, Alkaline Trio and One Man Army. Unlike the earlier entries in the ''BYO Split Series'', there is only one cover song ("Wait for the Blackout") originally performed by The Damned. The other eleven tracks are brand new. Since their formation, the group has consisted of Chuck Ragan and Chris Wollard on shared lead vocals and guitars, bass guitarist Jason Black, and drummer George Rebelo. Alkaline Trio / Hot Water Music is a split EP by Alkaline Trio and Hot Water Music, punk rock bands based in Chicago and Gainesville, Florida respectively. The EP was released on January 22, 2002, through Jade Tree. In addition to new material, the EP features each band performing cover versions of songs from the other band's catalogue: Alkaline Trio covered Hot Water Music's “Rooftops” (from '' No Division'') and Hot Water Music covered Alkaline Trio's “Radio” (from '' Maybe I'll Catch Fire'') and “Bleeder” (from '' I Lied My Face Off''). It was the first release by Alkaline Trio with drummer Derek Grant who replaced previous drummer Mike Felumlee in July 2001. "Stupid Kid" is a song by the Chicago-based punk rock band Alkaline Trio, released as the first single from the group's 2001 album '' From Here to Infirmary''. Two different versions of the single were released in the United Kingdom, where it became the band's first charting song by reaching #53 on the UK Singles Chart The song's music video was directed by Matthew Barry and Maureen Egan. It depicts the band performing the song outside of an elementary school. Inside the school, a boy becomes infatuated with his female teacher and makes attempts to impress her. When the teacher writes "you scare me" in the boy's yearbook, he is humiliated in front of the class and the other children laugh at him. He stands outside the classroom window and removes his tuque, revealing a pair of devil-like horns as the teacher is consumed by smoke. "The Metro", also published as "Metro", is a 1981 song written by John Crawford for his band, Berlin. Background The song was first released as a non-album single, "The Metro" b/w "Tell Me Why", on the MAO Music label in 1981. It reappeared, slightly remixed, on Berlin's breakthrough album ''Pleasure Victim'', released on the independent label Enigma in 1982 and re-released on Geffen in 1983. In May 1983, "The Metro" was re-released as the third single from the album, and the second to appear on the Geffen label. It was produced and engineered (as was most of the album) by the band's then-drummer and drum programmer, Daniel Van Patten. "Hell Yes" is a song by the Chicago-based punk rock band Alkaline Trio, released as a single in 2001 through Lookout! Records. Both tracks of the single, "Hell Yes" and "My Standard Break from Life", were recorded in 2000 at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, Minnesota during sessions for the band's 2001 album '' From Here to Infirmary''. The single was the band's final release to include drummer Mike Felumlee, who left the group shortly after ''From Here to Infirmary'''s release. Both tracks were reissued in 2007 on the compilation album '' Remains''. Background Singer and guitarist Matt Skiba wrote "Hell Yes" in tribute to Anton LaVey, founder and High Priest of the Church of Satan. It was written shortly after Skiba moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where LaVey had once lived.
