Religion Unplugged is a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News, a network of independent and nonpartisan news organizations. The website has received numerous awards from Editor & Publisher, Religion News Association, SABEW and other organizations. In 2019, ''Religion Unplugged'' broke the story of a whistleblower complaint against Ensign Peak Advisors, the investment manager for assets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Clemente Lisi has served as executive editor since 2023. The Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) is a non-profit consortium of nonprofit journalism organizations. The organization promotes nonprofit investigative and public service journalism. INN facilitates collaborations between member organizations, provides training in best-practices and fundraising, and provides back-office services. History INN was founded as the Investigative News Network in 2009 at a summer conference held at the Pocantico Center in New York with journalists from the Center for Public Integrity and the Center for Investigative Reporting, among other newer organizations.
