Rehovot Silverbacks
The Mazkeret Batya Silverbacks are an amateur American football team based in Mazkeret Batya, Israel. The Silverbacks compete in the Israel Football League (IFL). History The Silverbacks first played during the 2012–2013 season as the Rehovot Silverbacks. They did not win a single game during their first two seasons and in 2014 they moved to Mazkeret Batya, which is located just five kilometers southeast of Rehovot. They achieved their first ever win in December 2014, when they defeated the Jerusalem Kings. The Silverbacks reached the playoffs for the first time in 2018 despite only finishing 2-8. The Israel Football League (IFL; he, ליגת הפוטבול הישראלית), also known as the Kraft Family Israel Football League for sponsorship reasons with the Kraft Family, is an amateur American football league consisting of eight teams. The IFL is the highest level of American football in Israel and each season culminates in the Israel Bowl. The Tel Aviv Pioneers are the reigning Israel Bowl champions, having defeated the Jerusalem Lions in Israel Bowl XIV for their third championship. Mazkeret Batya ( he, מַזְכֶּרֶת בַּתְיָה) (lit. "Batya Memorial") is a local council in central Israel located southeast of Rehovot and from Tel Aviv. Mazkeret Batya spans an area of 7,440 dunams (7 km²). In it had a population of . The mayor of Mazkeret Batya is Gaby Gaon. History Mazkeret Batya was established on November 7, 1883 by 11 ultra-orthodox farmers from Russia, one of which was Yaakov Laskovsky, and 7 local Jews. It was originally called Ekron, the first agricultural settlement of the Hovevei Zion movement. The land was purchased by Baron Rothschild in an early attempt to introduce Jewish farming in Palestine. Rabbi Shmuel Mohilever was instrumental in mobilizing funding and organizing the settlers. Mohilever's remains were later reinterred in the Mazkeret Batya cemetery. Gorillas are herbivorous, predominantly ground-dwelling great apes that inhabit the tropical forests of equatorial Africa.
