Rehoboth Freedom Party
The Rehoboth Volksparty () was a political party in Namibia. It was founded in 1968 by Hans Diergaardt, on the basis of the Rehoboth Taxpayers Association. In 1971, the RVP joined the National Convention. In August 1976 the party is merged into the South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO). Hans Diergaardt
Johannes Gerard Adolph Diergaardt, more commonly known as Hans Diergaardt (16 September 1927 – 13 February 1998) was a Namibian politician active for nearly a decade after Namibia gained independence. Prior to that, he was elected as the fifth Kaptein of the then-autonomous Baster community at Rehoboth, succeeding Dr. Ben Africa in 1979 after winning a court challenge to the disputed election of 1976. Both before and after independence, Diergaardt founded several local political parties, among them the Federal Convention of Namibia. He represented this party as a member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia, convened to draft the constitution for the new nation of Namibia. Diergaardt is known for his criticism of black-majority rule in the early years of independent Namibia. National Convention (Namibia)
The National Convention was an alliance of political parties in South West Africa. It was formed in 1971 when the International Court of Justice ruled that South African rule in Namibia was illegal, and it consisted of various pro-independence groups and parties, including the South West Africa National Union (SWANU), the South West Africa Peoples Organization (SWAPO) and the National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) formed the National Convention as a united front against South African rule. South West Africa People's Organisation
The South West Africa People's Organisation (, SWAPO; af, Suidwes-Afrikaanse Volks Organisasie, SWAVO; german: Südwestafrikanische Volksorganisation, SWAVO), officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia, is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. Founded in 1960, it has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by the Ovambo ethnic group. SWAPO held a two-thirds majority in parliament from 1994 to 2019. In the general election held in November 2019, the party won 65.5% of the popular vote and 63 out of the 104 seats in the National Assembly. Rehoboth, Namibia
Rehoboth is a town in central Namibia just north of the Tropic of Capricorn. Located 90 kilometres (55 miles) south of the Namibian capital Windhoek, Rehoboth lies on a high elevation plateau with several natural hot-water springs. It receives sparse mean annual rainfall of , although in the 2010/2011 rainy season a record were measured. In 2005, it had a population of 21,378 later increased to 28,843 in 2011, according to the 2011 Namibian Population and Housing Census. Rehoboth is intersected from north to south by the national road B1, which also serves as the border of the two electoral constituencies in the town, Rehoboth Urban West and Rehoboth Urban East.
