The Regional Council of Calabria (''Consiglio regionale della Calabria'') is one of the twenty Regional Council (Italy), Regional Councils of Italy. Geography The Regional Council represents the Calabria Regions of Italy, Region of Southern Italy. Calabria is located in the "toe" of the southwestern Italian Peninsula. Description The Regional Council of Calabria was established in 1970. It is based at the Palazzo Campanella in the city of Reggio Calabria. Composition The Regional Council of Calabria was originally composed of 40 regional councillors. The number of regional councillors increased to 42 in the Calabrian regional election, 1995, 1995 regional election, to 43 in the Calabrian regional election, 2000, 2000 regional election and finally to 50 in the Calabrian regional election, 2005, 2005 regional election. Lega Per Salvini Premier
Lega ( en, League), whose official name is Lega per Salvini Premier ( en, League for Salvini Premier; abbr. LSP or LpSP), is a right-wing populist political party in Italy, led by Matteo Salvini. The LSP is the informal successor of Lega Nord ( en, Northern League, LN) and, while sharing the latter's heartland in northern Italy, it is active all around the country. The LSP was founded in December 2017 as the sister party of the LN and as a replacement of Us with Salvini (NcS), the LN's previous affiliate in central and southern Italy. The regions of Italy ( it, regioni d'Italia) are the first-level administrative divisions of the Italian Republic, constituting its second NUTS administrative level. A regional council (''Consiglio regionale'') in Italy is the elected legislative assembly of a region of Italy. In Emilia-Romagna and Sicily, the legislative bodies are called the Legislative Assembly of Emilia-Romagna and the Sicilian Regional Assembly respectively. Origins The ''regional idea'' was born, in Italy, during the national Risorgimento and the first decades after the Unification of Italy, but any proposal was rejected until the Second World War. After the collapse of Fascism and the end of the war a violent independence movement that led to the institution of the region and the concession of the Statute, based on the model of federal states was born in Sicily. A similar route followed Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Sardinia, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol and Valley of Aosta. Calabrian Regional Election, 1995
The 1995 Calabrian regional election took place on 23 April 1995. Giuseppe Nisticò (Forza Italia) was elected President of the Region, defeating Donato Tommaso Veraldi ( People's Party).
