Region 8 was an administrative district from 2000 to 2006 in the City of Johannesburg, South Africa, located in the historic heart of Johannesburg centrally situated on the north-west axis, and towards the eastern border. Surrounding regions, from the north and proceeding clockwise, were Region 3 (Sandton), Region 7 (Alexandra), Region 9 ( Johannesburg South), and Region 4 ( Northcliff). Region 3 was an administrative district in the City of Johannesburg, South Africa, from 2000 to 2006, and was also known as the Sandton region, as it included the formerly independent municipality of Sandton, and many of the northern suburbs of the former Johannesburg municipality. It bordered Region 1 (Johannesburg), Region 1 (Diepsloot), Region 2 (Johannesburg), Region 2 (Midrand), Region 7 (Johannesburg), Region 7 (Alexandra, Gauteng, Alexandra), Region 8 (Johannesburg), Region 8 (Johannesburg, Johannesburg Central), Region 4 (Johannesburg), Region 4 (Northcliff), and Region 5 (Johannesburg), Region 5 (Roodepoort). Sandton is a financial, commercial and residential area, located in the northern part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Formerly an independent municipality, Sandton's name came from the combination of two of its suburbs, Sandown, Gauteng, Sandown and Bryanston, Gauteng, Bryanston. History Early settlers Archaeological findings suggest the area which Sandton comprises today, had originally been occupied by various indigenous groups, before European settlement, most notably the Tswana people, Tswana and, to a lesser extent, Sotho people. Region 7 was an administrative district in the City of Johannesburg, South Africa, from 2000 to 2006. It included the densely populated Alexandra township and the town of Modderfontein and was one of Johannesburg's eastern boundary sections, situated in the north-east of the city. Alexandra, Gauteng
Alexandra, informally abbreviated to Alex, is a township in the Gauteng province of South Africa. It forms part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality and is located next to the wealthy suburb of Sandton. Alexandra is bounded by Wynberg on the west, Marlboro and Kelvin on the north, Kew, Lombardy West and Lombardy East on the south. Alexandra is one of the poorest urban areas in the country. Alexandra is situated on the banks of the Jukskei River. Northcliff
Northcliff is a wealthy residential suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. The suburb is located on Northcliff Ridge which provides views to both the north and the south. Northcliff's huge homes are nestled around a steep incline of the hill, and on the foot of Northcliff borders the suburbs of Fairland, Blackheath, Cresta and Berario.
