Reginald Jones-Sawyer
Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer, Sr., (born January 14, 1957) is an American politician currently serving in the California State Assembly. He is a Democrat representing the 59th Assembly District, which encompasses portions of South Central Los Angeles, the neighborhoods of Florence-Graham and Walnut Park, and a part of Huntington Park. Jones-Sawyer is a member of the California Legislative Black Caucus, and served as Chair from 2015-2016. Before being elected to the Assembly in 2012, he was Assistant Deputy Mayor for the City of Los Angeles. Jones-Sawyer terms out of the Assembly in December 2024. Jones-Sawyer announced in February 2023 that he is running for the City of Los Angeles Council District 10 seat. Members of the Jones-Sawyer family were early pioneers in the civil rights movement. Jefferson Thomas
Jefferson Allison Thomas (September 19, 1942 – September 5, 2010) was one of the Little Rock Nine, a group of African-American students who, in 1957, were the first black students ever to attend classes at Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1999, Thomas and the other students of the Little Rock Nine were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by President Bill Clinton. Early life and education Jefferson Thomas, the youngest of seven children, was born in Little Rock to Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Thomas. His parents named him after Thomas Jefferson, President of the United States. Thomas first attended Horace Mann High School, a segregated all-black school, where he was a track athlete. San Francisco Chronicle
The ''San Francisco Chronicle'' is a newspaper serving primarily the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. It was founded in 1865 as ''The Daily Dramatic Chronicle'' by teenage brothers Charles de Young and Michael H. de Young. The paper is owned by the Hearst Corporation, which bought it from the de Young family in 2000. It is the only major daily paper covering the city and county of San Francisco.
