Regina East
Regina East was a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1988. This riding was created in 1966 from parts of Humboldt—Melfort, Melville, Moose Jaw—Lake Centre, QuAppelle, Regina City and Yorkton ridings. It was abolished in 1987 when it was redistributed into Regina—Qu'Appelle and Regina—Wascana ridings. Regina—Wascana (formerly Wascana) is a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1988. Geography Most of the riding is within the provincial capital city of Regina, in southern Saskatchewan. The riding is bordered on the south by Fifth Base Line; on the west by Albert Street; on the north-west by the Canadian Pacific Railway; on the north by Victoria Avenue; and on the east by Range Road 190. The riding is bordered on the south by Moose Jaw—Lake Centre—Lanigan; on the west by Regina—Lewvan; and on the north and east by Regina—Qu'Appelle. The riding lost significant territory in the 2012 re-distribution to Moose Jaw—Lake Centre—Lanigan and Souris—Moose Mountain, but lost very little population. Canadian federal electoral districts are constituencies that elect members of Parliament to Canada's House of Commons every election. Evatt Francis Anthony "Tony" Merchant, (born 1944) is a Canadian lawyer, businessman, and former politician. His law firm Merchant Law Group LLP, which he founded in 1986, is best known for representing former students of Indian residential schools in the $1.9 billion Indian Residential School Settlement in 2006, the largest class-action settlement in Canadian history. Prior to founding his law firm, Merchant represented Regina Wascana in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal member. Merchant was named a Queen's Counsel in 1995. Simon De Jong
Simon Leendert De Jong (April 29, 1942 – August 18, 2011) was an Indonesian-born Canadian parliamentarian. He was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1979 federal election as a New Democratic Party (NDP) Member of Parliament (MP) from Saskatchewan. He would spend five terms and 18 years in the House of Commons. Early life Simon De Jong was born in Sidoarjo, Indonesia, spending the first three years of his life, with his mother Dirkje and older brother Hielke in a concentration camp. Of 3,000 women and children who were incarcerated by the Japanese during the occupation of Java, only a third survived. Simon's father, a Dutch mariner, was also a prisoner-of-war. The family were reunited after the war and returned to the Netherlands. They came to Canada in 1951, and Simon spent his formative years in Regina. Kenneth Roy MacLeod
Kenneth Roy MacLeod (September 10, 1927 – March 30, 2011) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Regina Albert Park from 1971 to 1975 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan and was educated in Tisdale and at the University of Saskatchewan, where he received a law degree. He practised law in Saskatoon and then Regina, where he became a partner in Balfour, MacLeod, McDonald, Moss, Laschuk and Kyle. Francis Alvin George Hamilton, (March 30, 1912June 29, 2004) was a Canadian politician. Hamilton led the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan from 1949 until he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1957 general election. Regina City was a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1935 to 1968. This riding was created in 1933 from parts of Regina riding. It consisted initially of the city of Regina.
