Refugee Rescue
Refugee Rescue is a charitable Non-Governmental Organisation based in Northern Ireland which operates the rescue vessel '' Mo Chara'' from the North Shore of Lesvos, Greece, covering parts of the Aegean Sea. It also fulfills a coastguard role along that coast. History Refugee Rescue was founded in 2015, by Joby Fox and Jude Bennett; the charity moved rapidly on from an initial coastguard-like role to purchasing and operating an inshore rescue boat. Refugee Rescue's rescuer and activist Mary Finn was featured in the documentary "Bigger than us", drawing attention to the problems of people-trafficking and refugees. Atlantic 75
The Atlantic 75 is the second generation Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB), in the B-class series of Inshore lifeboats, that were operated around the shores of the British Isles and the Channel Islands, by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) between 1993 and 2021. This lifeboat was a development of, and gradually replaced, the lifeboat, but have now been superseded by the new lifeboat. Description The Atlantic 75 has Hypalon-coated nylon inflatable sponsons. Changing from the grey of the Atlantic 21, all Atlantic 75 sponsons are orange. A conical diaphragm is placed between sections of the sponson, to transfer pressure should damage or leaking occur. The 2015 European migrant crisis was a period of significantly increased movement of refugees and Human migration, migrants into Europe, mostly from the Middle East. An estimated 1.3 million people came to the continent to request Right of asylum, asylum, the most in a single year since World War II. ''Sea Eye 4'' is an offshore supply ship that is used as a sea rescue ship. The Sea-Eye organisation moved the ship to the Mediterranean Sea in 2021 to rescue refugees. History ''ESL Express'', 2011 The ship was built under, construction number 296, at Scheepswerf Pattje in Waterhuizen, Netherlands, for the Norwegian shipping company Norway Supply Ships in Stavanger as an offshore supplier. It was launched as the ''West Eagle''. In 1981 the ship was sold to Arvid Bergvall Jr. & Co., registered in Panama and renamed ''Springfield''. In 1982 the ship went to the Dutch shipping company Vroon, which renamed it ''Oil Express''. In 2011, Eagle Shipping bought the ship and renamed it ''ESL Express''. Sea-Eye is a German non-governmental organization headquartered in Regensburg. It participates in the rescue of migrants in distress in the Mediterranean, in particular by having chartered the ships '' Sea-Eye'' and '' Seefuchs/ Sea Fox'' until August 2017, then the '' Alan Kurdi'' (named in memory of the young Syrian found drowned on a Turkish beach in 2015) and from August 2020 to 2025 the '' Sea-Eye 4''. Rigid Inflatable Boat
A rigid inflatable boat (RIB), also rigid-hull inflatable boat or rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB), is a lightweight but high-performance and high-capacity boat constructed with a rigid hull (watercraft), hull bottom joined to side-forming air tubes that are inflated with air to high pressure to give the sides resilient rigidity along the boat's topsides. The design is stable, light, fast and seaworthy. The inflated collar acts as a life jacket, ensuring that the vessel retains its buoyancy, even if the boat is taking on water.
