Reform Party (Northern Mariana Islands)
The Reform Party was a political party in the Northern Mariana Islands. It was not an affiliate of the Reform Party USA but rather the American Reform Party, a splinter group. History The Reform Party was founded in 1999 by former Governor Froilan C. Tenorio, who claimed to be disgruntled and tired of the disunity showed by his former political affiliation, the Democrats. He also targeted the Republicans, saying that they did nothing to improve the slumping economy. Despite this, in 2000, Gubernatorial and Democrat hopeful former Lt. Gov. Jesus C. Borja publicly expressed interest in a Democrat-Reform united front against the Republicans in the 2001 elections. Ramon Deleon Guerrero
Ramon "Kumoi" Santos Deleon Guerrero (September 19, 1946 – March 20, 2018) was a politician from the Northern Mariana Islands. Guerrero was an independent candidate for Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands in the 2009 gubernatorial election. Biography Guerrero previously worked as an assistant to former Governor Froilan Tenorio for seven years. Guerrero also served as the former executive director of the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation (CUC) for four years. He died March 20, 2018 in Guam. Political career In the 1999 general election, Deleon Guerrero defeated Republican incumbent Juan P. Tenorio to represent Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands Senate. 1999 Northern Mariana Islands General Election
The 1999 Northern Mariana Islands general election was held on Saturday, 6 November 1999. Voters in the Northern Mariana Islands voted for 3 seats in the Northern Mariana Islands Senate, all eighteen seats in the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives, seats for the municipal council, and seats for the board of education, and a judge. 2001 Northern Mariana Islands General Election
The 2001 Northern Mariana Islands general election was held on Saturday, 3 November 2001, electing the governor and members to the legislature. The 2001 elections marked the last general election that the dissolved Reform Party, which merged back into the Democratic Party in 2002, would appear on the ballot. Froilan Cruz Tenorio
Froilan Cruz "Lang" Tenorio (September 9, 1939 – May 4, 2020) was a Northern Mariana Islander politician who was the fourth governor of the Northern Mariana Islands. Elected in 1993, he served one term from January 10, 1994 to January 12, 1998. During his governorship and most of his political career, Tenorio was a member of the Democratic Party of the Northern Mariana Islands, which was not then affiliated with the American Democratic Party. However, he later switched his affiliation to the Reform Party, a party he founded. Froilan Tenorio would later switch back to the Democrat in 2002 and then to the Covenant Party in 2009. Northern Mariana Islands Senate
The Northern Mariana Islands Senate is the upper house of the Northern Mariana Islands Commonwealth Legislature. The Senate consists of nine senators representing three senatorial districts (Saipan & the Northern Islands, Tinian & Aguijan, and Rota), each a multi-member constituency with three senators. Maria Frica Pangelinan was the first woman to serve in the Senate. Vacancies In the event of a vacancy that occurs less than two years before the end of the Senator's term, the Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands appoints the runner-up of the most recent election. Jesus "Jesse" Camacho Borja (born September 14, 1948) is a Northern Mariana Islander politician and lawyer who served as the fourth lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands from January 10, 1994 until January 12, 1998 under former Democratic Governor Froilan Tenorio. Biography Early life Borja was born on September 14, 1948, to parents, Antonia Sablan Camacho and Ricardo Tudela Borja. He married his wife, the former Mary Anne Mangloña Pangelinan, in July 1972. The Reform Party of the United States of America (RPUSA), generally known as the Reform Party USA or the Reform Party, is a centrist political party in the United States. The party was founded in 1995 by Ross Perot. Perot believed Americans were disillusioned with the state of politics as being corrupt and unable to deal with vital issues. After he received 18.9 percent of the popular vote as an independent candidate in the 1992 presidential election, he founded the Reform Party and presented it as a viable alternative to Republicans and Democrats.
