Referendums In Turkey
Since the foundation of the Republic of Türkiye in 1923, the country held seven referendums on national level. In the first two referendums (1961 and 1982), new Constitutions were submitted to public approval by military regimes. The remaining five referendums concerned Constitutional reforms and legislative changes proposed by civilian governments in 1987, 1988, 2007, 2010 and 2017. The processes of submission to the public vote are carried out by the election boards under the management and supervision of the Supreme Election Council. Sunday (Latin: ''dies solis'' meaning "day of the sun") is the day of the week between Saturday and Monday. Elections In Turkey
Elections in Turkey are held for six functions of government: presidential elections (national), parliamentary elections (national), municipality mayors (local), district mayors (local), provincial or municipal council members (local) and muhtars (local). Apart from elections, referendums are also held occasionally. The parliamentary elections are held every five years. The Parliament (''Meclis'') has 600 members, elected for a five-year term by a system based on closed list proportional representation according to the D'Hondt method. Political parties are subject to an electoral threshold of 7%. Smaller parties can avoid the electoral threshold by forming an alliance with bigger parties, in which it is sufficient that total votes of the alliance passes the 7%. The Constitution of 1961, officially titled the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey (), was the fundamental law of Turkey from 1961 to 1982.
