Al Reeves
Al Reeves (May 31, 1864 – February 26, 1940) was an American vaudeville and minstrel show entertainer, vocalist, and banjo player. Catch phrase: "Give me credit, boys." He began performing in 1878, and was heavily involved in the burlesque scene. He later toured with his own company, Al Reeves' Specialty Co. and produced his famous "Big Beauty Show" ("99% Girls 99%") which bragged packed houses for twenty years. He was later known as the "King of Burlesque." Reeves made his only known recordings with Columbia Records and Edison Records from 1891 and 1893, and around the same time had an inadvertent influence on the young Al Jolson's interest in show business. James Travis Reeves (August 20, 1923July 31, 1964) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. One of the earliest pioneers and practitioners of the Nashville sound, he played a central role in the sonic development of country music in the 1960s. Hubert Reeves (July 13, 1932 – October 13, 2023) was a Canadian astrophysicist and popularizer of science. Early life and education Reeves was born in Montreal on July 13, 1932, and as a child lived in Léry. Reeves attended Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, a prestigious French-language college in Montreal. He obtained a BSc degree in physics from the Université de Montréal in 1953, an MSc degree from McGill University in 1956 with a thesis entitled "Formation of Positronium in Hydrogen and Helium" and a PhD degree at Cornell University in 1960. Career From 1960 to 1964, he taught physics at the Université de Montréal and worked as an adviser to NASA. He became a Director of Research at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) in 1965. Personal life and death Reeves often spoke on television, promoting science. George Reeves (born George Keefer Brewer; January 5, 1914 – June 16, 1959) was an American actor. He was best known for portraying Superman, Clark Kent/Superman in the television series ''Adventures of Superman (TV series), Adventures of Superman'' (1952–1958). Edward Ayearst Reeves (9 February 1862 – 17 October 1945) was a British geographer, astronomer, and cartographer. He was a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society beginning in 1896, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society from 1900, and won the 1922 Cullum Geographical Medal and 1928 Victoria Medal. Born on 9 February 1862 in Lewes, Reeves became a junior assistant in the Royal Geographical Society's map room of the at age 16, becoming a map curator in 1900. Beginning in 1901, he worked as an instructor of both astronomy and surveying; in 1904, he was promoted to superintendent of the map drawing department. He retired in 1933.
