Reem Al-Kamali
Reem Al-Kamali is an Emirati author and journalist. She was born in 1979 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She is primarily interested in heritage and ancient languages. Biography Al-Kamali completed her high school education in Al-Ittihad School in Dubai. She obtained a Diploma in Social Studies from Al-Ain Scientific College. Then, she went on to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in History from the Lebanese University in Beirut. She worked as a columnist in Emirati newspapers from 1996-2000. She also worked as an editor for political and cultural columns from 2001-2008. She has been working at Al-Bayan newspaper since 2008, and she works as designer of her cultural column known as 'Masarat.' She has been the newspaper's librarian since 2015. Arabic Booker Prize
The International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) ( ar, الجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية) is the most prestigious and important literary prize in the Arab world. Its aim is to reward excellence in contemporary Arabic creative writing and to encourage the readership of high quality Arabic literature internationally through the translation and publication of winning and shortlisted novels in other major languages. In addition to the prize itself, IPAF supports other literary initiatives. In 2009, IPAF launched its inaugural Nadwa (writers’ workshop) for emerging writers of fiction in Arabic. Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) is an 11-day international book fair held annually in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Its debut edition was launched in 1982 under the guidance and patronage of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, the UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Sheikh Zayed Book Award
The Sheikh Zayed Book Award is a literary award begun in the UAE. It is presented yearly to "Arab writers, intellectuals, publishers as well as young talent whose writings and translations of humanities have scholarly and objectively enriched Arab cultural, literary and social life." The award was established in memory of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the principal architect of United Arab Emirates, the authoritarian ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the UAE for over 30 years (1971–2004). The first award was in 2007. The total value of the prizes is making it one of the richest literary awards in the world. The "Cultural Person of the Year" is the premier category, it includes an award of one million Dirhams (around $300,000) while the other categories receive around $200,000 each.
