Redvers Smith
Redvers Smith (1 December 1903 – after 1932), commonly known as Reg Smith, was an English professional association football, footballer who made 143 English Football League, Football League appearances playing as a full back (association football), full back for Brighton & Hove Albion. Life and career Smith was born in Rotherham, which was then in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He played for Midland Football League (1889), Midland League club Scunthorpe & Lindsey United before joining Brighton & Hove Albion in 1923. Although the team had considerable strength at full back (association football), full back during the 1920s, Smith averaged 20 league matches a season for the seven seasons he spent in the first team, and was appointed captain for 1929–30. An injury early in that campaign effectively ended his professional career, although he remained on the club's books until 1931. He then played amateur football for Shoreham F.C., Shoreham. Rotherham () is a large minster and market town in South Yorkshire, England. The town takes its name from the River Rother which then merges with the River Don. The River Don then flows through the town centre. It is the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. The Midland Football League was a semi-professional football league in England. It acted as a feeder league to the Football League for many years before merging with the Yorkshire League in 1982 to form the Northern Counties East League. Scunthorpe United Football Club is a professional association football club based in the town of Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. The side currently competes in the National League, the fifth tier of the English football league system.
