Redmond Central Connector
The Redmond Central Connector is a paved rail trail and linear park in Redmond, Washington. It is a spur of the Eastside Rail Corridor, connecting the main Eastrail to downtown Redmond. The trail features art made from railroad tracks and signals. History The land for the trail was acquired in 2010. Construction proceeded in three phases, beginning in 2013, 2017, and 2022 respectively. The final phase will break ground in 2024, connecting the Central Connector to the Cross Kirkland Corridor. Route The trail begins western end of the Puget Power Trail near Overlake Christian Church and Digipen Institute of Technology. A future extension will connect it to the Cross Kirkland Corridor and the rest of the Eastrail. Sammamish River Trail
The Sammamish River Trail is a recreational pedestrian and bike path rail trail in King County, Washington that runs along the Sammamish River from Blyth Park in Bothell to Marymoor Park in Redmond as part of the “Locks to Lakes Corridor.” It connects to the Burke-Gilman Trail at its northwestern end, and to the Redmond Central Connector at its southeastern end. Route The trail is paved for bicycle, inline-skate and pedestrian use and is paralleled for most of its length by an unpaved equestrian trail. It passes near the Chateau Ste. Michelle, Columbia and Silver Lake wineries in Woodinville, as well as the former site of the Redhook Ale brewery, which was leased by DeLille Cellars, Sparkman Cellars and Teatro ZinZanni. The East Lake Sammamish Trail is an recreational rail trail in King County, Washington that runs along Lake Sammamish from Marymoor Park in Redmond, through Sammamish, to Gilman Boulevard in Issaquah. History The trail had initially encountered fierce political resistance from nearby homeowners through whose property the former BNSF Railway right-of-way runs. An interim trail, with a packed gravel surface suitable for walking and mountain biking, had been scheduled for completion by January 2006. After losing a federal lawsuit brought by the Cascade Land Conservancy and Friends of the East Lake Sammamish Trail before the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, however, the homeowners relented, and the trail was finally completed and opened on 21 March 2006. State Route 520 (SR 520) is a state highway and freeway in the Seattle metropolitan area, part of the U.S. state of Washington. It runs from Seattle in the west to Redmond in the east. The freeway connects Seattle to the Eastside region of King County via the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge on Lake Washington. SR 520 intersects several state highways, including Interstate 5 (I-5) in Seattle, I-405 in Bellevue, and SR 202 in Redmond. The original floating bridge was opened in 1963 as a replacement for the cross-lake ferry system that had operated since the late 19th century. Bear Creek (Washington)
Bear Creek () is a tributary of the Sammamish River in King County, Washington, United States. The stream flows approximately from its source at Paradise Lake near Maltby to a confluence with the Sammamish River at Marymoor Park in Redmond. The creek has two tributaries, Cottage Lake Creek and Evans Creek, and a watershed of . The Lushootseed name of the creek, , means "used to be wide". The earliest human occupation in the vicinity of the creek dates back at least 12,000 years. An archaeological site found in 2008 had artifacts dating between 10,000-12,500 years, revealing the first tool-making site at least 10,000 years old found in Washington state. Some tools found at the site held DNA from ice-age animals such as bison, deer, bear, sheep, and salmon. Downtown Redmond station is a Link light rail station on the north side of Redmond Town Center shopping mall in downtown Redmond, Washington. It is an elevated station located along Cleveland Street ( SR 202) between 164th and 166th avenues. The station was originally included in the Sound Transit 2 ballot measure in 2008, but was left out of the East Link Extension after a funding shortfall stemming from the City of Bellevue's desire for a tunneled alignment under Downtown Bellevue. Sound Transit instead completed environmental reviews and selected a preferred alignment to Downtown Redmond, indefinitely deferring the final segment of East Link until a later date. Redmond Town Center is a mixed-use development and shopping center in downtown Redmond, Washington. Owned and managed by Fairbourne Properties, Redmond Town Center has more than 110 shops, restaurants, lodging, and entertainment venues in an outdoor environment. It opened in 1997 on the site of a defunct municipal golf course along the north side of State Route 520.
