Redhill, South Australia
Redhill (formerly Broughton) is a town in the Mid North of South Australia adjacent to the Broughton River. Governance Redhill is in the Port Pirie Regional Council local government area, the South Australian House of Assembly electoral district of Frome and the Australian House of Representatives Division of Grey. History Redhill was established in the late nineteenth century under the name of Broughton, with a hotel, blacksmith, general store, and other businesses built within the township. Several churches were also built in the township. A primary school operated in the town for many years. The town was formally renamed as Redhill in 1940, but it had been known by that name well before then. Broughton River (South Australia)
The Broughton River is a river in the Australian state of South Australia. Course The river flows from the junction of the Hill River and the Yakillo Creek immediately south of Spalding in a westerly direction towards Spencer Gulf. Its mouth is located in the gazetted locality of Port Davis about north of Port Broughton and south west of Port Pirie. Tributaries of the Broughton include Freshwater Creek, Bundaleer Creek, the Rocky River, Crystal Brook, Yakillo Creek, the Hill River and the Hutt River. The river descends over its course. The Snowtown Wind Farm is a wind farm in South Australia. It is located on the Barunga Range, Barunga and Hummocks Ranges west of Snowtown, South Australia, Snowtown in the Mid North of South Australia, around north of the state capital, Adelaide. They were developed by Trustpower and owned by Tilt Renewables, which demerged from Trustpower in 2016. District Council Of Redhill
The District Council of Redhill was a local government area in South Australia from 1888 to 1988. It was proclaimed on 5 January 1888 as one of the new councils created under the ''District Councils Act 1887'' under the name of the District Council of Broughton. At its creation, it included the Hundreds of Mundoora, Redhill, Koolunga, and Wokurna. Meetings were initially held at Redhill, but were moved to Port Broughton after complaints from the councillor for Wokurna Ward about the distance over rough roads to attend meetings. On 9 June 1892, the District Council of Mundoora was created, severing the Hundred of Wokurna from the existing council and gaining "all that portion of the Hundred of Mundoora not included in the District of Broughton". As a result, the District Council of Broughton was resubdivided into three wards (Broughton Extension, Koolunga and Redhill), electing only five councillors instead of the initial eight. George Frederick Claridge
George Frederick Claridge (24 October 1852 – 27 April 1931) was a South Australian businessman and philanthropist, longtime chairman of the Home for Incurables. History Claridge was born in Bicester, Oxfordshire, the second son of Samuel Frederick Claridge and Annie Claridge, née Chinner. Her parents were early colonists of South Australia who had prospered and were on a return visit to England when the couple married. They too settled in the new colony, arriving at Adelaide in 1854, and had a home in William Street, Norwood. Claridge was educated at Thomas Caterer's Commercial College in Beaumont. After leaving school he served four years' apprenticeship with Palmer & Tolley's drapery shop at 55 Rundle Street, then his father's business, Claridge & Sons, a general store in Auburn. :S. F.
