Red Top Mountain State Park
Red Top Mountain State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. It is located in the Northwestern part of the state, on the northwestern edge of metro Atlanta, in Southeastern Bartow County near Cartersville. Named for iron-rich Red Top Mountain, the park covers 1,776 acres (6.32 km2) on a peninsula jutting north into Lake Allatoona, formed on the park's north and east sides by the Etowah River arm and on the west by Allatoona Creek arm. During the 1864 Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War, the Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought on a battlefield near the park. Lake Allatoona
Lake Allatoona (officially called Allatoona Lake) is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Etowah River in northwestern part of the State of Georgia. This reservoir is mostly in southeastern Bartow County and southwestern Cherokee County. A small portion is located in Cobb County near Acworth. Cartersville is the nearest city to Allatoona Dam. Also, Red Top Mountain State Park is located on its shores, on the peninsula between the two arms of the lake. Most of the north side of the lake remains protected from land development because of its isolated location, mostly blocked by the lake. The major highways Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41 pass along the southern and western side of Lake Allatoona, and they cross the Etowah River downstream from the Allatoona Dam. George Washington Carver State Park
George Washington Carver State Park was a state park in the U.S. state of Georgia. It existed from 1950 to 1975, when it was then leased to Bartow County as a county park known as Bartow Carver Park, and since 2017 as George Washington Carver Park. Red Top Mountain, located on Lake Allatoona, consists of and derives its name from the rich red color of the soil that comes from the high iron content in the ground.
