Red Roses ( cy, Rhos-goch, "red moor") is a village in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire ( cy, Gorllewin Caerfyrddin a De Sir Benfro) is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Senedd constituency was created with the same boundaries in 1999 (as an Assembly constituency). A477 Road
The A477 is a major road in South Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire connecting St Clears and Johnston. Its route includes the Cleddau Bridge, a former toll bridge linking Pembroke Dock and Neyland. From the A40 in St Clears, the A477 is a trunk road with primary status as far as the Waterloo roundabout in Pembroke Dock, on the southeast side of the Milford Haven Waterway. Responsibility for the management and maintenance of this section lies with the South Wales Trunk Road Agent on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government. From there the responsibility for maintaining the A477 is held by Pembrokeshire County Council. Laugharne Township (electoral Ward)
Laugharne Township ( cy, Lacharn) is the name of an electoral ward for Carmarthenshire County Council in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is represented by one county councillor. As well as the town of Laugharne, the ward also covers the neighbouring communities of Eglwyscummin, Llanddowror and Pendine. It includes the villages and settlements of Broadway, Halfpenny Furze, Llandawke, Llanddowror, Llanmiloe, Llansadwrnen, Marros, Pendine, Plashett and Red Roses. The usual population of this ward at the 2011 census was 2,851. A 2019 boundary review by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales recommended the name of the ward be changed to 'Laugharne' with the Welsh name 'Lacharn' (though Laugharne Township Community Council preferred 'Talacharn'). It recommended no changes to the ward boundaries. A community ( cy, cymuned) is a division of land in Wales that forms the lowest tier of local government in Wales. Welsh communities are analogous to civil parishes in England. There are 878 communities in Wales. History Until 1974 Wales was divided into civil parishes. These were abolished by section 20 (6) of the Local Government Act 1972, and replaced by communities by section 27 of the same Act. The principal areas of Wales are divided entirely into communities. Eglwyscummin ( cy, Eglwys Gymyn) is a community situated on the south-western boundary of Carmarthenshire in south-west Wales. It is made up of the three ward parishes of Ciffig, Eglwyscummin, and Marros, all surrounding the village of Red Roses, which lies some three miles south of Whitland and forms part of the Laugharne Township electoral ward. The area consists mostly of farmland and is traversed from east to west by the main A477 road leading to south Pembrokeshire and the Pembroke Dock ferry port, crossed at Red Roses by the B4314 running southeastwards from the county boundary at Tavernspite to the seaside resort of Pendine Sands.
