Port Kembla, New South Wales
Port Kembla is a suburb of Wollongong 10 km south of the CBD and part of the Illawarra region of New South Wales. The suburb comprises a seaport, industrial complex (one of the largest in Australia), a small harbour foreshore nature reserve, and a small commercial sector. It is situated on the tip of Red Point: its first European sighting was by Captain James Cook in 1770. The name "Kembla" is an Aboriginal word meaning "plenty fwild fowl". Martin Islet, New South Wales
Martin Islet () is a small island lying just off Red Point, Port Kembla in New South Wales, Australia. William Martin The Five Islands, of which Martin Islet is one, were named Martins Isles by Matthew Flinders and George Bass after Bass's navy servant William Martin. Martin was part of their three-man crew when they anchored by the island on 25 March 1796 in the ''Tom Thumb'', having been swept a long way off-course on their way to Port Hacking. Little is known of Martin's life. Born December 31, 1870 in Dartford, he was baptised on March 4, 1781. He was the son of John and Ann Martin. In 1794, he was employed by the navy as a loblolly boy (personal servant) to Bass who was the surgeon on board HMS ''Reliance'' for her voyage to Australia. Captain Cook
Captain James Cook (7 November 1728 – 14 February 1779) was a British Royal Navy officer, explorer, and cartographer famous for his three voyages of exploration to the Pacific and Southern Oceans, conducted between 1768 and 1779.
