''Red Penguins'' is a 2019 sports film, sports documentary film written, produced and directed by Gabe Polsky, in co-production with Studio Hamburg Enterprises and Norddeutscher Rundfunk. The film premiered on September 5, 2019 at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival. It received Writers Guild of America and Critics Choice awards nominations. ''Red Penguins'' tells the story of opportunism run amok in 1990s Moscow. Shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union, ice hockey teams Pittsburgh Penguins and the HC CSKA Moscow, CSKA Moscow (also known in the West as the Red Army team) formed a joint venture. American marketer Steve Warshaw was sent to Moscow and was tasked to transform the team into the greatest show in Russia, attracting some of the biggest names in Hollywood and advertising along the way. Gabe Polsky
Gabe Polsky (born May 3, 1979) is an American film director, writer, and producer. Early life Gabe Polsky was born on May 3, 1979, to Ukrainian immigrants in Illinois, and he was primarily raised in the Chicago area. He attended the Hotchkiss School. After graduating, he attended Yale University, where he played NCAA hockey. He competed on Team USA in hockey at the 1997 Maccabiah Games in Israel, winning a silver medal. Career In 2009, Polsky produced '' Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans'' with Stephen Belafonte, Alan Polsky, Edward R. Pressman, Randall Emmett, and John Thompson. Viktor Tikhonov (born 1930)
Viktor Vasilyevich Tikhonov (Russian language, Russian: Виктор Васильевич Тихонов; 4 June 1930 – 24 November 2014) was a Russian ice hockey player and coach. Tikhonov was a defenceman with VVS Moscow and Dynamo Moscow from 1949 to 1963, winning four national championships. He was the coach of the Soviet Union national ice hockey team, Soviet team when it was the dominant team in international play, winning eight Ice Hockey World Championships, World Championship gold medals, as well as Olympic gold medals in 1984, 1988 and 1992. Tikhonov also led CSKA Moscow to twelve consecutive league championships. He was named to the IIHF Hall of Fame as a Builder (ice hockey), builder in 1998. The Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) is an eleven-day film festival held in Santa Barbara, California in February annually, since 1986. Vladislav (Vlad) Nikolayevich Listyev (; May 10, 1956 – March 1, 1995) was a Soviet, later Russian journalist and head of the ORT TV Channel (now government-owned Channel One).
