Red Miller (May 5, 1914, Atlanta, Georgia - October 13, 1987)''Billboard Book of Top 40 R&Band Hip Hop Hits'', Joel Whitburn was an American R&B singer, who had a # 1 R&B chart hit in 1948 with "Bewildered". Few biographical details of Miller seem to be available. The record, on the Bullet label, featured Miller backed by Lloyd Glenn (piano), Tiny Webb (guitar), Ralph Hamilton (bass) and Robert Harvey (drums). It reached # 1 on the R&B chart in December 1948, and stayed there for five weeks, for some of that time tied with a version of the same song by Amos Milburn. Miller later recorded with Tiny Bradshaw for King Records, and with Emmitt Slay for Savoy Savoy (; frp, Savouè ; french: Savoie ) is a cultural-historical region in the Western Alps. At least five record labels with the name Bullet Records have existed. Bullet Records, Nashville, 1946-1952 The earliest Bullet Records was a record label based in Nashville, Tennessee, Nashville, United States, which was started in 1946 by Jim Bulleit and C.V. Hitchcock. Bulleit was an early partner in Sun Records. Its only national hits were by orchestra leader Francis Craig. The pop hit "Near You" made in early 1947 was a monster, topping the charts for seventeen weeks and having a chart run of twenty-five weeks. Lloyd Glenn
Lloyd Colquitt Glenn (November 21, 1909 – May 23, 1985) was an American R&B pianist, bandleader and arranger, who was a pioneer of the "West Coast" blues style. Career Born in San Antonio, Texas, from the late 1920s, Glenn played with various jazz bands in the Dallas and San Antonio areas, first recording in 1936 with Don Albert's Orchestra. He moved to California in 1941, joining the Walter Johnson trio in 1944, and finding employment as a session musician and arranger. He accompanied T-Bone Walker on his 1947 hit " Call It Stormy Monday", and later the same year made his own first solo records, billed as Lloyd Glenn and His Joymakers. In 1949 he joined Swing Time Records as A&R man, and recorded a number of hits with Lowell Fulson, including " Everyday I Have the Blues" and the #1 R&B hit " Blue Shadows". Amos Milburn
Joseph Amos Milburn (April 1, 1927 – January 3, 1980) was an American rhythm-and-blues singer and pianist, popular in the 1940s and 1950s. He was born in Houston, Texas, and died there 52 years later. One commentator noted, "Milburn excelled at good-natured, upbeat romps about booze and partying, imbued with a vibrant sense of humour and double entendre, as well as vivid, down-home imagery in his lyrics." Life and career Milburn was born in Houston, one of thirteen children. By the age of five, he was playing tunes on the piano. He enlisted in the United States Navy when he was fifteen and earned thirteen battle stars in the Philippines. He returned to Houston and organized a sixteen-piece band playing in clubs in the city. Savoy Records is an American record company and label established by Herman Lubinsky in 1942 in Newark, New Jersey. Savoy specialized in jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel music.
