Red Eyebrows Rebellions
The Red Eyebrows () was one of the two major peasant rebellion movements against Wang Mang's short-lived Xin dynasty, the other being Lülin. It was so named because the rebels painted their eyebrows red. The rebellion, initially active in the modern Shandong and northern Jiangsu regions, eventually led to Wang Mang's downfall by draining his resources, allowing Liu Xuan (the Gengshi Emperor), leader of the Lülin, to overthrow Wang and temporarily reestablish an incarnation of the Han dynasty. The Red Eyebrows later overthrew the Gengshi Emperor and placed their own Han descendant puppet, teenage emperor Liu Penzi, on the throne, who ruled briefly until the Red Eyebrows leaders' incompetence in ruling the territories under their control caused the people to rebel against them, forcing them to retreat and attempt to return home. Dahuting Tomb Mural, Cavalry And Chariots, Eastern Han Dynasty
The Dahuting Han tombs are Eastern Han dynasty (1st century AD) tombs of Zhang Boya and his wife, in modern Xinmi, Henan Province. They are famous for their well-preserved murals and stone carvings. Discovery and history In December 1959, construction workers digging west of Dahuting Village in Mi County (now Xinmi), Henan Province, encountered the southern limits of two subterranean tombs built of stone and brick. The Institute of Cultural Relics of Henan Province excavated the two tombs, designated M1 and M2, from February to December 1961. Subsequent excavations of the area beginning in the autumn of 1977 revealed nine satellite burials surrounding M1 and M2. A report on tombs M1 and M2 was published by Cultural Relics Publishing, Beijing in 1993. Sanmenxia ( zh, s= , t= , p=Sānménxiá; Postal romanization, postal: Sanmenhsia) is a prefecture-level city in the west of Henan, Henan Province, China. Hongnong Commandery
Hongnong Commandery ( zh, 弘農郡), also known as Hengnong Commandery ( zh, 恒農郡), was a commandery of China from Han dynasty to Tang dynasty, located in modern western Henan and southeastern Shaanxi. Hongnong was established in 113 BC. The seat was Hongnong county, near the strategic Hangu Pass. It administered 11 counties: Hongnong (弘農), Lushi (盧氏), Shan (陝), Yiyang (宜陽), Mianchi (黽池), Danshui (丹水), Xin'an (新安), Shang (商), Xi (析), Luhun (陸渾), Shangluo (上雒). In medieval Europe, a march or mark was, in broad terms, any kind of borderland, as opposed to a state's "heartland".
