Red Army Tactics In World War II
Development of Red Army tactics began during the Russian Civil War, and are still a subject of study within Military academies in Russia, Russian military academies today. They were an important source of development in military theory, and in particular of armoured warfare before, during and after the World War II, Second World War, in the process influencing the outcome of World War II and the Korean War. Beginnings The Red Army's tactical doctrine was shaped by the Russian experience of the World War I, First World War, and in particular the Brusilov Offensive. Theoretical writings on tactical doctrine in the late 1920s reflect Soviet awareness that motor transport and armoured vehicles would potentially change the conduct of warfare. The Russian Civil War () was a multi-party civil war in the former Russian Empire sparked by the 1917 overthrowing of the Russian Provisional Government in the October Revolution, as many factions vied to determine Russia's political future. It resulted in the formation of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic and later the Soviet Union in most of its territory. Its finale marked the end of the Russian Revolution, which was one of the key events of the 20th century.
