Red Action (Croatia)
Red Action / Red Initiative ( sh, Crvena akcija / Crvena inicijativa) is a communist political organization active in Croatia (initially as Red Action) and Serbia (initially as Red Initiative). As a self-proclaimed anti-imperialist organization, it strongly opposes the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and is known for attacking NATO symbols with red paint. It also considers the European Union to be an instrument for Western European imperialism and exploitation of Eastern Europe, along with the rest of the world. History During the 2009 Israel-Gaza conflict, Red Action organized a protest of solidarity with Palestinians together with the Muslim community in Zagreb. 2008 Greek Riots
The 2008 Greek riots started on 6 December 2008, when Alexandros Grigoropoulos ( el, Αλέξανδρος Γρηγορόπουλος), a 15-year-old Greek student, was killed by a special officer in Exarcheia district of central Athens. The killing of the young student by police resulted in large protests and Demonstration (people), demonstrations, which escalated to widespread rioting, with numerous rioters damaging property and engaging Riot control, riot police with Molotov cocktails, stones and other objects. The Kurdistan Workers' Party or PKK is a Kurdish militant political organization and armed guerrilla movement, which historically operated throughout Kurdistan, but is now primarily based in the mountainous Kurdish-majority regions of southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq. Since 1984, the PKK has utilized asymmetric warfare in the Kurdish–Turkish conflict (with several ceasefires between 1993 and 2013–2015). 2009 Student Protests In Croatia
Student protests in Croatia 2009 began at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb. On Monday, 20 April 2009, the independent students' initiative for the right to free education started an occupation of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, Croatia. The occupation lasted for 35 days, until 24 May, when the students voted to suspend the occupation. The students were protesting the Croatian government's plans to reduce public funding for higher education. The occupation in Zagreb spread next day to the University of Zadar (where the entire university was blocked) and then to other cities in the country, including Split, Pula, Rijeka and Osijek. Zagreb Pride
Zagreb Pride () is the annual LGBTIQ+ pride march in the city of Zagreb, Croatia, which first took place in 2002, as the first successful pride march in Southeast Europe. Zagreb Pride organizers say their work was inspired by the Stonewall Riots and the Gay Liberation Front. It is self-identified as LGBTIQ+ march and therefore in 2003 changed its name from Gay Pride Zagreb into Zagreb Pride.
