Winnipeg () is the capital and largest city of the province of Manitoba in Canada. Burnthe8track is a punk rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba That is currently on hiatus. Band members have included singer Derek Kun, guitarist Jason Kun, drummer Sam Osland and bassists Mike Goreski, Ethan Osland. Buck Garringer and Kevin Feeleus. History Burnthe8track was formed in 2001 by Derek Kun, Jason Kun, Sam Osland and Kevin Feeleus. Kevin Feeleus left the band after the independent release of the Division E.P in 2002. Buck Garringer of the Harlots joined the band briefly and was eventually replaced by Mike Goreski. That year the band performed at Winnipeg's Grand Beach Music Fest. Their debut album, ''The Ocean'', was released in 2004 to positive reviews through Century Media/Abacus/Alveran. Ash Koley is a Canadian new wave/alternative pop band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The band consists of Ash Koley (lead singer), after whom the band is named, and Phil Deschambault (guitar, keyboard). History Ashley Michelle Koley was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She graduated from Miles MacDonell Collegiate and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at the University of Winnipeg. During her childhood she studied dance and musical theater. She began formal singing lessons at the age of 5. During her high school years she sang with the group Prodigy, an advanced placed singing group led by producer/songwriter, Zane Zalis. The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is a Canadian orchestra based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Its primary concert venue is the Centennial Concert Hall, and the orchestra also performs throughout the province of Manitoba. The WSO presents an average of 80 concerts per year. The WSO also provides orchestral accompaniment to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Manitoba Opera. The orchestra's current executive director is Angela Birdsell, since July 2021. History Established in 1947, the WSO played its first concert on December 16, 1948, in the Civic Auditorium. Walter Kaufmann was the WSO's first music director, from 1948 to 1958. Victor Feldbrill, the WSO's only Canadian Music Director to date, succeeded Kaufmann in 1958. The Waking Eyes
The Waking Eyes is a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg and Steinbach, Manitoba. History The band formed after the break-up of two other Manitoba bands, The Pets from Steinbach and Novillero from Winnipeg. In 2002 The Waking Eyes released a full-length album, '' Combing the Clouds''. In 2004 The Waking Eyes followed up with a second album, ''Video Sound''. The album won a 2005 Western Canada Music Award. Shortly before the album was released, bassist Russ Dufault left the band, temporarily replaced by The Meligrove Band's Michael Small (for a short tour and the "Watch Your Money" music video), before Joey Penner was introduced. The band went on several tours, traveling across Canada, as well as into the United States and to overseas locations including Germany for POPKOMM's "Kick it like Canada". Inuit Throat Singing
Inuit throat singing, or ''katajjaq'' (Inuktitut syllabics: ᑲᑕᔾᔭᖅ), is a distinct type of throat singing uniquely found among the Inuit. It is a form of musical performance, traditionally consisting of two women who sing duets in a close face-to-face formation with no instrumental accompaniment, in an entertaining contest to see who can outlast the other; however, one of the genre's most famous practitioners, Tanya Tagaq, performs as a solo artist. Several groups, including Tudjaat, The Jerry Cans, Quantum Tangle and Silla + Rise, also now blend traditional throat singing with mainstream musical genres such as pop, folk, rock and dance music.
