Reconquête Politicians
Reconquête (; en, Reconquest), styled as Reconquête! (R!), is a nationalist political party in France founded in late 2021 by Éric Zemmour, who has since served as its leader. He was a far-right candidate in the 2022 presidential election, in which he placed fourth with just over 7% of the vote as the best newcomer. History Background From September 2021, opinion polling for the 2022 presidential election showed a sharp rise in favour of far-right journalist and author Éric Zemmour in the months before he officialised his candidacy. A series of polls suggested that he might reach the presidential election's second round, competing against incumbent President Emmanuel Macron. Éric Zemmour
Éric Justin Léon Zemmour (; born 31 August 1958) is a French far-right politician, essayist, writer and former political journalist and pundit. He was an editor and panelist on ''Face à l'Info'', a daily show broadcast on CNews, from 2019 to 2021. He unsuccessfully ran in the 2022 French presidential election, in which he placed fourth in the first round. Born in Montreuil, Zemmour studied at Sciences Po. He worked as a reporter for ''Le Quotidien de Paris'' from 1986 to 1996. He then joined ''Le Figaro'', where he worked until 2021. Zemmour appeared as a television personality on shows such as ''On n'est pas couché'' on France 2 (2006–2011) and ''Ça se dispute'' on I-Télé (2003–2014), as well as ''Zemmour et Naulleau'' (2011–2021), a weekly evening talk show on Paris Première, together with literary critic Éric Naulleau. ''Les Echos'' is the first daily French financial newspaper, founded in 1908 by the brothers Robert and Émile Servan-Schreiber. It is the main competitor of ''La Tribune'', a rival financial paper. History and profile The paper was established as a monthly publication under the name of ''Les Échos de l'Exportation'' by the brothers Robert and Émile Servan-Schreiber in 1908. It became a daily newspaper in 1928 and was renamed as ''Les Echos''.
