Recognition Of Same-sex Unions In Monaco
Same-sex relationships are recognised in the microstate of Monaco. On 4 December 2019, the National Council passed a bill establishing cohabitation agreements, offering both same-sex and opposite-sex couples limited rights and benefits in the areas of inheritance and property. The law took effect on 27 June 2020. Cohabitation agreements The legislative process leading to the recognition of same-sex couples started in the early 2010s. In November 2010, an interview mentioned that Jean-Charles Gardetto, a member of the National Council and lawyer, was preparing a draft bill intending to legally define cohabitation, either for heterosexual or for homosexual couples. Monégasque Nationality Law
Monégasque nationality law determines entitlement to Monégasque citizenship. Citizenship of Monaco is based primarily on the principle of ''jus sanguinis''. In other words, citizenship is conferred primarily by birth to a Monégasque parent, irrespective of place of birth. Acquisition for Monégasque citizenship By descent Children who at the time of birth had a Monégasque father or mother that was born Monégasque (regardless of the place of birth) are eligible for Monégasque citizenship. 2007 Monegasque Municipal Elections
The 2007 Monegasque municipal elections were held on 4 March to elect the 15 members of the Communal Council of Monaco. Electoral system Monegasque citizens over 18 are entitled to vote. The 15 councillors were elected for a four-year period in a single multi-member constituency using plurality-at-large voting with a two-round system. A majority of the votes was required to be elected. The second round would have been held one week after the first round. The Mayor of Monaco was elected by the councillors after the election. Candidates were required to be at least 21 years old and to have the Monegasque nationality for at least 5 years. Results Georges Marsan was re-elected mayor. Horizon Monaco
Horizon Monaco was the ruling coalition of Monaco after the 2013 Monegasque general election, winning 20 of the 24 available seats in the National Council. The coalition, led by Laurent Nouvion, was composed mostly of the conservative Rally & Issues political party along with Synergie Monegasque and Union for the Principality. However, in 2016, many members defected to a new coalition, "New Majority", which became the new ruling coalition. Stéphane Valeri (born 1 March 1962) is a Monegasque politician and businessman. He served as the president of the National Council, which is the most powerful elected position in Monaco, between 22 February 2018 and 23 October 2022. He is the former Minister for Social Affairs and Health in Monaco. He served three terms as a National Councillor, and then as its president, but resigned halfway through the second term so that he could serve as a Government Minister. While growing up Valeri attended two high schools ( Lycée Albert Prime, and Lycée Masséna), as well as the European School of Management in Berlin. Bernard Barsi
Bernard César Augustin Barsi (4 August 1942 – 28 December 2022) was a French prelate of the Catholic Church who was the archbishop of Monaco from 2000 to 2020. Biography Barsi was born on 4 August 1942 in Nice, France. He was ordained a priest on 28 June 1969. After his ordination, he served as a vicar at the parish of Saint-Etienne de Tinée in Nice from 1969 until 1972. From 1972 to 1982 he worked in the vocations office of the diocese. He was appointed pastor of La Trinité parish, serving in that capacity from 1982 to 1991. He was made vicar general of the diocese of Nice in 1991, and served in that position until 2000 with a brief interruption from 1997 to 1998, when he was administrator of the Diocese of Rennes.
