''Tunes of War'' is the seventh studio album by German heavy metal band Grave Digger (band), Grave Digger. It is a Concept album, concept about the Scottish struggles for independence from England, from the medieval conflicts between its clans in the 11th century through to the Jacobite rebellion of the 18th. This is the first album to feature drummer Stefan Arnold, and the last album to feature bassist Tomi Göttlich. It is the first album in Grave Digger's trilogy of medievally inspired concept albums which was continued by Knights of the Cross (album), ''Knights of the Cross'' (1998) and concluding with Excalibur (Grave Digger album), ''Excalibur'' (1999). Grave Digger (band)
Grave Digger is a German heavy metal band that was first formed in 1980 by Chris Boltendahl and Peter Masson. Emerging from the 1980s German heavy/power/speed metal scene, they are considered part of the scene's "big four" alongside Helloween, Rage and Running Wild. Band history Early years and split (1980–1990) After various appearances at small festivals, the band recorded two songs for the compilation album ''Rock from Hell'' in 1983. A year later, Grave Digger, now comprising Chris Boltendahl (vocals), Peter Masson (guitar), Willi Lackmann (bass) and Albert Eckardt (drums), released their debut album '' Heavy Metal Breakdown''. In 1985, with Lackmann having left the band, they recorded and released their second album '' Witch Hunter''. Only after the album was completed, a replacement on bass was found in the form of C.F. William Wallace
Sir William Wallace (, ; Norman French: ; 23 August 1305) was a Scottish knight who became one of the main leaders during the First War of Scottish Independence. Along with Andrew Moray, Wallace defeated an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in September 1297. He was appointed Guardian of Scotland and served until his defeat at the Battle of Falkirk in July 1298. In August 1305, Wallace was captured in Robroyston, near Glasgow, and handed over to King Edward I of England, who had him hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason and crimes against English civilians. Since his death, Wallace has obtained a legendary status beyond his homeland. He is the protagonist of Blind Harry's 15th-century epic poem '' The Wallace'' and the subject of literary works by Jane Porter and Sir Walter Scott, and of the Academy Award-winning film ''Braveheart''. Hansi Kürsch
Hans Jürgen "Hansi" Kürsch (born 10 August 1966) is a German singer, best known as a member of the power metal band Blind Guardian. One of the founders of the band, he has been its lead vocalist since its creation in 1984, and also acted as the band's bass guitarist until 1996. He is also the former lead vocalist of Demons & Wizards, a side-project with Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer until his departure from the project in 2021. Additionally, he has worked prominently as a guest with other artists, including Angra, Edguy, Iced Earth, and Therion; he notably played characters in the Ayreon albums ''01011001'' and ''The Source''. Uwe Lulis
Uwe Lulis (born 6 December 1965) is a German guitarist. He is currently one of three guitarists of German heavy metal band Accept. He became known for playing guitar in Grave Digger for about 13 years, for whom he co-wrote many songs during his time in the band. After leaving Grave Digger Lulis and Tomi Göttlich, former bassist of Grave Digger, formed the heavy metal band Rebellion in 2000. Lulis and two other members left Rebellion in 2010. Lulis is a known producer and owns his studio Black Solaris Studios. He has produced other bands like Wizard, Paragon, Montany etc. In October 2008, Lulis broke his right leg in a motorcycle crash. Because of this, his band Rebellion used only one guitarist on their planned gigs. On 4 December 2014, Lulis joined Accept as a replacement for guitarist Herman Frank. Battle Of Culloden
The Battle of Culloden took place on 16 April 1746, near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. A Jacobite army under Charles Edward Stuart was decisively defeated by a British government force commanded by the Duke of Cumberland, thereby ending the Jacobite rising of 1745. Charles landed in Scotland in July 1745, seeking to restore his father James Francis Edward Stuart to the British throne. He quickly won control of large parts of Scotland, and an invasion of England reached as far south as Derby before being forced to turn back. However, by April 1746, the Jacobites were short of supplies, facing a superior and better equipped opponent. Charles and his senior officers decided their only option was to stand and fight. When the two armies met at Culloden, the battle was brief, lasting less than an hour, with the Jacobites suffering an overwhelming and bloody defeat.
