Kent Music Report
The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music historian David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top 40 Singles from 1966, and albums chart from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. David Kent later published Australian charts from 1940 to 1973 in a retrospective fashion, using state by state chart data obtained from various Australian radio stations. Melvyn Morrow
Melvyn Morrow (born 1942, in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian playwright. He co-wrote the jukebox musicals ''Shout! The Legend of the Wild One'' and ''Dusty - The Original Pop Diva'' with John-Michael Howson and David Mitchell. Earlier in his life he wrote material for ''The Mavis Bramston Show''. Biography He is a graduate of St Aloysius' College. He taught English and Drama at Stonyhurst College where he directed and wrote the libretto for the musical ''Frank Ass'', based on the life of Francis of Assisi. The musical was also taken to the Edinburgh festival in 1974. Cliff Friend
Cliff Friend (October 1, 1893 – June 27, 1974) was an accomplished American songwriter and pianist. A member of Tin Pan Alley, Friend co-wrote several hits including " Lovesick Blues", "My Blackbirds Are Bluebirds Now" and " The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down", also known as the theme song to the ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon series. Early life Friend was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1893. His father was first violinist with the Woods Theater Orchestra. Friend studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music with the aim of becoming a concert pianist, until a three-year bout of tuberculosis. Friend met Harry Richman while working on vaudeville shows, and the two moved to Los Angeles, California where they befriended Buddy De Sylva and Al Jolson. Charles Tobias
Charles Tobias (August 15, 1898 – July 7, 1970) was an American songwriter. He was sometimes credited as Charley Tobias. Biography Born in New York City, United States, Tobias grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts with brothers Harry Tobias and Henry Tobias, also songwriters. He started his musical career in vaudeville. In 1923, he founded his own music publishing firm and worked on Tin Pan Alley. Tobias referred to himself as "the boy who writes the songs you sing." His credits include "Merrily We Roll Along," "Rose O'Day," “Silver Bird” (with Dee Libbey), " Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer," "Comes Love," and " Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree (with Anyone Else but Me)." Peter Best is an Australian composer who has created or contributed to many film scores. His career started in 1967. In 1969, the founders of Producers Authors Composers and Talent (now PACT Centre for Emerging Artists) attended a Sydney University Architecture Revue, with sets by Geoffrey Atherden and Grahame Bond, and invited Bond, Atherden,Peter Weir, and Best a chance to do a show at the National Art School. Debra Anne Byrne (born 30 March 1957), formerly billed as Debbie Byrne, is an Australian pop singer, variety entertainer, theatre and TV actress and writer, director and choreographer of cabaret. From April 1971 to March 1975 she was a founding cast member of ''Young Talent Time''. She started her solo singing career with a cover version of " He's a Rebel" (March 1974), which peaked at No. 25 on the ''Go-Set'' Australian Singles chart.
