Raúl Vilches
Raúl Vilches More (2 October 1954 – 13 January 2022), more commonly known as Raúl Vilches, was a Cuban volleyball player and two-time Olympian. He was a middle blocker. Career Vilches competed in the 1976 and the 1980 Summer Olympics. In 1976, he was part of the Cuban team that won the bronze medal in the Olympic tournament in Montreal. He played all six matches. Four years later, he finished seventh with the Cuban team in the 1980 Olympic tournament in Moscow. He played all six matches again. 1979 Pan American Games
The 1979 Pan American Games, officially the VIII Pan American Games () and commonly known as San Juan 1979, were a multi-sport event governed by the Panam Sports Organization (PASO), and were held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from July 1 to July 15, 1979. Volleyball and some baseball matches were held in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The 1980 documentary film '' A Step Away'' showcased a number of athletes competing in the Games. Bidding process On May 31, 1973, San Juan was the only candidate city to be a finalist to host the games and thus, San Juan was then selected to host the VIII Pan American Games by PASO at its general assembly in Santiago, Chile. ''Trabajadores'' (Workers) is a Cuban trade union newspaper. Founded in 1970 by Osvaldo de Melo and Sara del Carmen Zaldívar, ''Trabajadores'' operates under the auspices of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC). ''Trabajadores'' is published in Spanish, with an on-line English edition. It presents itself as newsletter for trade union members and blue collar workers. History In early June 1970, de Melo and Zaldivar started ''Los Trabajadores'', a tabloid, at the request of the general secretary of CTC, Hector Ramos Latour. 1982 Central American And Caribbean Games
The 14th Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Havana, Cuba from August 7 to August 18, 1982, and included 2,420 athletes from nineteen nations competing in 25 different sports. Some events were held in Santiago de Cuba, Cienfuegos, and the eastern end of the island. The Games were originally awarded to Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, which withdrew from organising in 1981. Havana stepped up to host the Games for the second time, the first being in 1930 Central American and Caribbean Games, 1930. Opening The torch was carried by María Caridad Colón. Central American And Caribbean Games
The Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC or CACGs) are a multi-sport regional championship event, held quadrennial (once every four years), typically in the middle (even) year between Summer Olympics. The games are for 32 countries and five territories in Central America, the Caribbean ( Caribbean Countries), Mexico, and the South American Caribbean countries of Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. The games are overseen by Centro Caribe Sports (''formerly CACSO''). The 1987 Pan American Games, officially known as the X Pan American Games, was a major international multi-sport event held in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, on August 7–23, 1987. Over 4,300 athletes from 38 countries in the Americas competed in 297 events in 30 sports, earning 1,015 medals. Events were held at 23 venues in and around Indianapolis. The official mascot for the games was Amigo, a green parrot.
