Raymond Xuereb
Raymond Xuereb (born 22 September 1952) is a Maltese retired footballer. He has played for Floriana, Ħamrun Spartans, Naxxar Lions, Għargħur, Qrendi throughout his career. He has also played for the Malta national football team. Club career Born in Marsa in 1952, Xuereb made his league debut for Floriana in 1969 against Valletta and scored 80 goals in 178 league games while winning 4 league titles and three domestic cups for them. He later helped Naxxar Lions clinch three successive promotions and is the only player who has scored at all levels of Maltese football. He was named Maltese Player of the Year in 1978. International career Xuereb made his debut for Malta in a December 1971 friendly match against Algeria and earned a total of 45 caps (3 unofficial), scoring 6 goals. Marsa, Malta
Marsa () is a town in the Southern Region of Malta, with a population of 4,401 people as of March 2014. The name Marsa means " the harbour".. Marsa Local Council. Retrieved 11 July 2014. History Marsa is located on the Marsa Creek, a body of water formed by the flow of water from wadis in high ground near the sea. The creek includes the Grand Harbour which the town is based on. Maltese Third Division
The Maltese Third Division (also known as the BOV Third Division due to sponsorship reasons) was the lowest league level in Maltese football until 2020 when it was merged with the Maltese Second Division to create the National Amateur League. History The league was founded in 2000. Until 2011 the division comprised two sections - Section A with eleven teams and Section B with eleven teams. Both sections play two rounds with the winner in each group getting promoted to the Maltese Second Division. Relegation play-offs between the 2nd and 3rd placed teams of both groups and the 10th-place finisher of Second Division determined the third team to be in the Second Division. The Maltese Challenge League (referred to as the BOV Challenge League for sponsorship reasons) is the second-highest division in Maltese football, behind the Maltese Premier League. The FA Trophy, currently known as the Meridianbet FA Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is an annual football (soccer), football cup competition that takes place in Malta. The cup was founded in 1933; following a match between England national football team, England and Italy national football team, Italy, played in Rome in May 1933, to where a number of pro-British Maltese supporters travelled to support the English side.
