Rayan (), also spelt Rayyan, Rayyaan, Rayaan, or Raian, is generally a given name of Arabic origin, both male and female, meaning "luxuriant," "well-watered" or "satiated" in Arabic. In Arabic and Islamic tradition, it is the name of one of the gates of Jannah, ''Al-Rayyan'', through which only those who fast a lot would enter on the Islamic view of the Last Judgment, Day of Resurrection. This name also has a meaning in Persian. Rayan (), also spelled Ryan, is an Iranian given name of Persian origin. It is primarily a male given name that means "smart", "wise" or "thinker". According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics in 2010, Rayan is also one of the most common names among Arab Christians and Druze in Israel. Nizar Rayan
Nizar Rayan (, , also transliterated Rayyan; 6 March 1959 – 1 January 2009) was a high-ranking Hamas leader who served as a liaison between the Palestinian organization's political leadership and its military wing. Also a professor of Islamic law, he became a top Islamic cleric within Hamas after the death of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in 2004. Rayan was a strong promoter between 1994 and 2004 of suicide bombings on Israel, and his son killed himself on one such mission. Rayan and most of his family were killed in an Israeli airstrike during the Gaza War. Personal life Rayan was born in Jabalia, Gaza Strip on 6 March 1959. In 1982, he received a BSc degree in Theology and Religious studies from Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. While there he was influenced by Wahhabism and Salafism. Rayan Al-Kildani
Rayan Salem Sadiq Al-Kildani (), better known as Rayan al-Kildani (, ), is an Iraqi Assyrian politician who serves as the general secretary of the Babylon Movement, as well as its military component, the Babylon Brigade. He rose to power after founding the party in 2014, which had initially been involved in defending the Nineveh Plains from ISIS when they were at their most active. Al-Kildani has received a multitude of scrutiny for the Babylon Brigade and its role in human rights violations. Videos of Rayan cutting off a prisoner's ear have surfaced, and his movement has been known to loot homes in Assyrian villages such as Bartella. On 1 February 2022, five-year-old Moroccan boy Rayan Aourram (; ) fell into a dry well in Ighran village in Tamorot commune, Chefchaouen Province, Morocco. Rescue attempts were delayed by the narrow well and fragile ground. A separate trench was dug to access the bottom of the well, although when rescuers reached Aourram on 5 February it was discovered that he had died. Background The mountainous region where the accident took place is located in the vicinity of Chefchaouen, in the Rif region of Northern Morocco, a region known for cannabis cultivation, which constitutes a main income resource for many poor families. This plant requires copious amounts of water to grow, especially the imported hybrid varieties, as opposed to the local '' kif'' hashish, whose cultivation can rely solely on rainwater.
