Ray Kelly (rugby League)
Ray Kelly was an Australian rugby league footballer who played as a in the 1950s. He played for Newtown in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. He was the brother of Harold Kelly who also played for Newtown in the 1950s. Early life Kelly was born in Gunnedah, New South Wales but grew up in Erskineville, New South Wales before being graded by Newtown. Playing career Kelly made his first grade debut for Newtown in 1953. In 1954, Kelly was part of the Newtown side which claimed the minor premiership with the likes of Brian Clay, Kevin Considine and Ray Preston playing for the club at the time. Kelly played at five-eighth in the 1954 NSWRL grand final against South Sydney which Newtown lost 23-15. The following year, Newtown again claimed the minor premiership and reached the 1955 NSWRL grand final against Souths. Gunnedah
Gunnedah is a town in north-eastern New South Wales, Australia and is the seat of the Gunnedah Shire local government area. In the the town recorded a population of 9,726. The South Sydney Rabbitohs are a professional Australian rugby league club based in Redfern, New South Wales, Redfern, a suburb of inner-southern Sydney, New South Wales. Clive Bernard Churchill AM (21 January 1927 – 9 August 1985) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer and coach in the mid-20th century. An Australian international and New South Wales and Queensland interstate representative , he played the majority of his club football with and later coached the South Sydney Rabbitohs. He won five premierships with the club as a player and three more as coach. Ray Preston (rugby League)
Ray Preston (10 November 1929 − 15 November 2019) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He was one of the game's most prolific try-scorers. Playing career He played eight seasons in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership for the Newtown club from 1949 to 1956. He played on the for the Newtown teams which won the 1954 and 1955 minor premierships, but lost both seasons' grand finals to Souths. During his eight seasons at Newtown, he played in over 100 games and he scored a record 107 tries. Preston started his career in the Newtown Juniors Lewisham Club. At the end of the 1954 NSWRFL season Preston played for Newtown on the wing in their grand final loss to South Sydney. Kevin William Considine was an Australian former rugby league Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112 ... footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. Playing career Considine started his career as a Canterbury junior from the Lakemba J.R.L.F.C. and was graded with Newtown in 1951.
