Ray Hanrahan
Raymond Allan Hanrahan (born 25 August 1952) is a former Australian politician. He was the Country Liberal Party member for Flynn in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 1983 to 1988. He was Deputy Chief Minister of the Northern Territory from March 1987 to April 1988. He was a minister in the Tuxworth and Hatton governments, serving as Minister for Health (1985–1986), Minister for Youth, Sport, Recreation and Ethnic Affairs (1985–1986), Minister for Business, Technology and Communications (1986–1987), Minister for Tourism (1986–1988), Minister for Lands and Housing (1987), Minister for Conservation (1987) and Minister for Education (1987–1988). He resigned suddenly as Deputy Chief Minister and from Cabinet on 5 April 1988, stating that he was "wrestling with a certain problem" in his personal life, later revealed to be an extramarital affair. The Country Liberal Party of the Northern Territory (CLP) is a centre-right political party in Australia's Northern Territory. In local politics it operates in a two-party system with the Australian Labor Party (ALP). It also contests federal elections as an affiliate of the Liberal Party of Australia and National Party of Australia, the two partners in the federal coalition. The CLP originated in 1971 as a division of the Australian Country Party (later renamed the National Party), the first local branches of which were formed in 1966. It adopted its current name in 1974 to attract Liberal Party supporters, but maintained a sole affiliation with the Country Party until 1979 when it adopted its current joint association. The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory is the unicameral legislature of the Northern Territory of Australia. The Legislative Assembly has 25 members, each elected in single-member electorates for four-year terms. The voting method for the Assembly is the full-preferential voting system, having previously been optional preferential voting. Elections are on the fourth Saturday in August of the fourth year after the previous election, but can be earlier in the event of a no confidence vote in the Government. The most recent election for the Legislative Assembly was the 2020 election held on 22 August 2020. The next election is scheduled for 24 August 2024. Ian Lindsay Tuxworth (18 June 1942 – 21 January 2020) was an Australian politician, who was Chief Minister of the Northern Territory of Australia from 17 October 1984 until his resignation on 10 May 1986. Early life Tuxworth was born on 18 June 1942 in Wollongong, New South Wales, to Lindsay and historian Hilda Elsie Tuxworth, and moved with his family to Tennant Creek in 1951. He was educated at Tennant Creek Primary School, and Rostrevor College in Adelaide. Before entering politics, Tuxworth, also known affectionately as "Slim", with his father and brother Robert (Bob), started a soft drink factory in Tennant Creek called Crystal Waters, which was later sold to the Coca-Cola Company. The Northern Territory Nationals were a political party active in the Northern Territory in the late 1980s. The party was not affiliated with the National Party of Australia, whose NT affiliate was the Country Liberal Party. The party was however associated with the National Party of Queensland-supported Joh for Canberra push. After the 1987 election they were represented in the Assembly by former Chief Minister and CLP leader Ian Tuxworth. They gained a second seat when Enzo Floreani won a by-election in the seat of Flynn in 1988. However, a redistribution ahead of the 1990 election erased Tuxworth's majority in Barkly and abolished Flynn altogether.
