Raymond Chan (politician)
Raymond Chan (; born October 25, 1951) is a Canadian engineer and politician. He is among the first Chinese Canadian to be appointed to the Cabinet of Canada. A member of the Liberal Party of Canada, Chan was elected to Parliament in the 1993 federal election, defeating then Defence Minister Tom Siddon in the riding of Richmond, British Columbia. Elected in 1993, Chan is the third Chinese Canadian represented in Parliament, after Douglas Jung, who secured a seat in 1957, Art Lee in 1974. In 2008, Chan lost his riding of Richmond to Conservative candidate Alice Wong. Early life Raymond Chan was born in Hong Kong in 1951. He emigrated to Canada in 1969, two years after Canada liberalized its immigration policy. He received a B.A.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1977. Raymond Chan Chi-chuen (born 16 April 1972 in Hong Kong, ), also called Slow Beat () in his radio career, is a former member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (representing the New Territories East constituency), presenter and former chief executive officer of Hong Kong Reporter. Chan is the first openly gay legislator in Hong Kong and East Asia. He resigned from the Legislative Council on 28 September 2020, citing that he would not serve in an "appointed legislature" after Beijing had extended the legislators' terms by a year. Chan, along with most other pro-democracy politicians in Hong Kong, is currently imprisoned. Raymond Javan Chan is an Australian oncology nurse, clinical trialist, researcher, and senior administrator. He is Matthew Flinders Professor of Cancer Nursing, and director of the Caring Futures Institute and dean of research within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Flinders University. He also holds academic titles as NHMRC Investigator Fellow and Matthew Flinders Fellow. He also currently holds an NHMRC Investigator Fellowship. Chan has published over 220 peer reviewed articles. Raymond Chan (1 December 1967 – 23 April 2024) was a British art director and production designer best known for his work on several films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise. Early life and education Raymond Chan was born the oldest of three children to Hong Kong parents in Oldham on 1 December 1967. His mother was a machinist and his father was a bus driver.
