Ray Allen (cricketer)
Raymond Allen (27 October 1908 – 2 August 1979) was a New Zealand cricketer who played first-class cricket for Wellington from 1942 to 1954. A left-arm spin bowler, Allen took five wickets in an innings in each of Wellington's two matches against Auckland in 1944–45, and was chosen to represent North Island at the end of the season. His best figures were 5 for 58 in his last first-class match, against the touring Fijians in 1953–54. Playing for Kilbirnie in Wellington club cricket and in minor matches for Wellington in the 1935–36 season he took 100 wickets at an average of 12.37. In February 1944, he ran out the Canterbury batsman John Smith while Smith was backing up; he had previously warned Smith against leaving the crease too soon. John Smith (1 July 1919 – 25 June 1999) was a New Zealand cricketer who played first-class cricket for Canterbury from 1943 to 1946. Run Out
Run out is a method of dismissal in cricket, governed by Law 38 of the Laws of Cricket. A run out usually occurs when the batsmen are attempting to run between the wickets, and the fielding team succeed in getting the ball to one wicket before a batsman has crossed the crease line near the wicket. The incomplete run the batsmen were attempting does not count. The North Island cricket team is a representative cricket team based in New Zealand. They have played intermittently in first-class and List A cricket since 1894. They have most frequently played against the South Island cricket team, but have also played first-class matches against touring national sides. In the 1981–82, 1993–94 and 1994–95 seasons, they faced South Island in one-day matches billed as the "Plunket Shield", while similar contests in 2003–04 and 2004–05 were named the "State of Origin" matches. Gary Allen (cricketer)
Gary Sol Allen (11 August 1945 – 5 May 2022) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played in three first-class and three List A matches for Wellington from 1976 to 1980. Allen and his father, Ray Allen, who played for Wellington in the 1940s, operated the family trucking business WH Allen Ltd. Auckland Cricket Team
The Auckland cricket team represent the Auckland region and are one of six New Zealand domestic first class cricket teams. Governed by the Auckland Cricket Association they are the most successful side having won 28 Plunket Shield titles, ten wins in The Ford Trophy and the Super Smash four times. The side currently play their home games at Eden Park Outer Oval. The limited overs side, known as the Auckland Aces, have a predominantly light blue kit with a navy and white trim.
