Rawcliffe, East Riding Of Yorkshire
Rawcliffe (or Rawcliffe in Snaith) is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately west of Goole. It lies on the banks of the River Aire just north of the M62 and on the A614 road. Rawcliffe, along with nearby Airmyn, was the location of one of the first reliable reports of the practice of warping in agriculture in the 1730s. Overview The civil parish is formed by the village of Rawcliffe and the hamlet of Rawcliffe Bridge which lies just to the south-east of the village. According to the 2011 UK census, Rawcliffe parish had a population of 2,379, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 2,087. The village is served by a railway station on the Pontefract Line railway, originally part of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway route to nearby Goole. Rawcliffe railway station is a railway station that serves the village of Rawcliffe in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The station is located on the Pontefract Line. The line passing through here was once a busy passenger and freight link to the inland port of Goole (the line and station first being opened by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1848) but since the mid-1980s much of the traffic that once used this route has disappeared. The route is single track between and Goole, the level crossing here has been automated and the rail-served freight terminal in Goole docks sees little use. The station has also been downsized and its signal box demolished. Rawcliffe Bridge is a small hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately south-west of Goole and lies just south of the M62 motorway. It forms part of the civil parish of Rawcliffe which lies just to the north-west. The hamlet was once served by a station on the to branch line, but this closed along with the line in June 1964. Rawcliffe is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York in North Yorkshire, England. It is bordered by the A19 and A1237, and lies about north-west of York between Skelton and Clifton Without.
