Rawan Barzani
Rawan Idris Barzani (born February 17, 1981) is the son of the late Kurdish leader Idris Barzani and brother of the current president of the Kurdistan region, Nechirvan Barzani. He is the commander of the First Special Forces Brigade of the Kurdistan Region. He is also the cousin of the prime minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani and the commander of the first battalion of the Kurdish special forces. Rawan Barzani played a major role in fighting and defeating ISIS terror group since the group's rise in 2014, and oversaw a long front-line, stretching more than 100 km from Mosul Dam to Sinjar Sinjar (; , ) is a town in the Sinjar District of the Nineveh Governorate in northern Iraq. Kurdistan Region (KRI) is a semi-autonomous Federal regions of Iraq, federal region of the Iraq, Republic of Iraq. Kurdistan Regional Government
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is the official executive body of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq. The cabinet is selected by the majority party or list who also select the prime minister of the Iraqi Kurdish polity. The president is directly elected by the electorate of the region and is the head of the cabinet and chief of state who delegates executive powers to the cabinet. The prime minister is traditionally the head of the legislative body but also shares executive powers with the president. Idris Barzani
Idris Barzani ( 1944 – 31 January 1987) was a Kurds, Kurdish politician in the Kurdistan Region. He was the brother of Massoud Barzani, the former president of the Kurdistan Region and the father of Nechervan Idris Barzani, the current president of the Kurdistan Region. He was often on diplomatic trips for the Kurdistan Democratic Party. He died on January 31, 1987, of a heart attack. Idris Barzani was one of the most prominent political figures in Southern Kurdistan, Kurdish politics, spending his entire life serving the Kurdish cause alongside his father Mullah Mustafa and brother Massoud Barzani. Masrour Barzani
Masrour Barzani (; ) (born 2 March 1969) is an Iraqi Kurdish politician and serving as prime minister of the Kurdistan Region, since June 2019. He is also the chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council and a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. He was sworn in as prime minister of the KRG’s ninth cabinet on 10 June 2019, after receiving 87 votes out of 97 legislators in the Kurdistan parliament. Barzani Family
The Barzani tribe () is a Kurdish tribe and tribal confederation of various neighboring tribes inhabiting Barzan in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The Barzanis are mostly Naqshbandi and one of the most influential tribes in Kurdistan. History Barzanis were originally Yezidis who in 19th century converted to the Sufi or mystical form of Sunni Islam. By late 19th century, the Barzani tribe, who were led by a Barzani sheikh (hereditary local ruler), had established a local tekkeyeh and attracted support of several other Kurdish tribes. The tekkeyeh became an asylum for the aggrieved local Kurdish tribes, assisting in strengthening the authority of the Barzani sheikhdom in the region and becoming the focal point of a claim for greater regional autonomy from what was at the time the Ottoman Empire. Mosul Dam
Mosul Dam (), formerly known as Saddam Dam (), is the largest dam in Iraq. It is located on the Tigris river in the western governorate of Nineveh, upstream of the city of Mosul. The dam serves to generate hydroelectricity and provide water for downstream irrigation.
