Ravnsbjerg Church
Ravnsbjerg Church () is a modern church, built 1975–1976, located on the hill of Ravnsbjerg in Viby J. The church was designed by the Danish architect Christian Frederik Møller and his architectural firm C. F. Møller Architects as part of the new development of Aarhus Aarhus (, , ; officially spelled Århus from 1948 until 1 January 2011) is the second-largest city in Denmark and the seat of Aarhus municipality, Aarhus Municipality. It is located on the eastern shore of Jutland in the Kattegat sea and app ... in 1970, which resulted in the suburbs being moved out of the old city areas. The church's building materials are primarily red and brown bricks in combination with exposed bearing structures in wood. Sculptor Erik Heide created the church's wood and granite decorations. Modern Architecture
Modern architecture, also called modernist architecture, or the modern movement, is an architectural movement and style that was prominent in the 20th century, between the earlier Art Deco and later postmodern movements. Modern architecture was based upon new and innovative technologies of construction (particularly the use of glass, steel, and concrete); the principle functionalism (i.e. that form should follow function); an embrace of minimalism; and a rejection of ornament. According to Le Corbusier, the roots of the movement were to be found in the works of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, while Mies van der Rohe was heavily inspired by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Diocese Of Aarhus
The Diocese of Aarhus (Danish language, Danish: ''Århus Stift'') is one of 10 dioceses in the Church of Denmark, with headquarters in the city of Aarhus. The diocese covers a large district of northeast Jutland and comprises 14 deanery, deaneries, of which four cover the extent of Aarhus city itself. History The diocese dates back to 948, when Adam of Bremen noted that Reginbrand, bishop of Aarhus, attended the synod of Ingelheim in Germany. It is not known if the diocese was established earlier or to what extent it functioned in Aarhus. Christianity still only enjoyed a tentative position in Denmark at the time and it is likely the diocese was created in part for missionary purposes and in part to demonstrate for the pope that the Archbishopric of Bremen was successfully converting the peoples in Scandinavia. Viby J
Viby J (or just Viby) is a former town and now a district, in the southwestern part of Aarhus in Denmark. The district has almost 30,000 inhabitants. The "J" stands for Jutland, as there is another town called Viby on the island of Zealand (Denmark), Zealand, officially referred to as Viby, Roskilde Municipality, Viby Sj and also a village on Funen. Etymology and origin Viby derives from the Old Norse words ''vé'' and ''býr'', meaning holy place and town respectively. Aarhus (, , ; officially spelled Århus from 1948 until 1 January 2011) is the second-largest city in Denmark and the seat of Aarhus municipality, Aarhus Municipality.
