Ravindra Kalakshetra
Ravindra Kalakshetra is a cultural centre in Bangalore which provides a home for musical and theatrical performances. Located in heart of Bangalore city, it was built to commemorate the birth centenary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Many well known theatre and film personalities like Umashree, Mukhyamantri Chandru, T. S. Nagabharana, Master Hirannaiah, C. R. Simha, T. N. Seetharam, and Prakash Rai among others have performed at Kalashektra. History In 1959, a high-level committee was formed to build the Kalakshetra under the chairmanship of then chief minister B. D. Jatti, with cultural stalwarts like Shivaram Karanth, Mallikarjuna Mansur, Gorur Ramaswamy Iyengar, T. Chowdaiah and Vimala Rangachar as members. Shivaram Karanth
Kota Shivaram Karanth (10 October 1902 – 9 December 1997), also abbreviated as K. Shivaram Karanth, was an Indian author, who was a novelist in Kannada language, playwright and an ecological conservationist. Ramachandra Guha called him the "Rabindranath Tagore of Modern India, who has been one of the finest novelists-activists since independence". He was the third writer to be decorated with the Jnanpith Award for Kannada, the highest literary honor conferred in India. His son Ullas is an ecological conservationist. A. N. Swamy Venkatadri Iyer (13 January 1898 – 14 February 1939), known by his pen name as Samsa, was an early 20th century's Indian historical playwright in Kannada language. His plays ''Suguna Gambhira'', ''Vigada Vikramaraya'' and ''Bettada Arasu'' have been made into stage dramas and prescribed as textbooks in various universities in Karnataka. Vimala Rangachar
Vimala Rangachar (1929 – 25 February 2025) was an Indian educationist who was associated with the fine arts and performing arts conservation movement of Karnataka. She was one of the founding members of the Mysore Education Society and was a recipient of the Karnataka government's Rajyotsava Award for her contributions to the fields of education, arts and culture. Early life Vimala Rangachar was born in 1929 to Ammanni Ammal and SK Ramanuja Iyengar. Goruru Ramaswamy Iyengar (1904–1991), popularly known as Goruru, was an Indian writer who wrote in Kannada. He was well known for his humour and satire. Early life Goruru Ramaswami Iyengar was born at "Goruru" in Hassan district of Karnataka on 4 July 1904 to a Tamil brahmin family. His father was Srinivas and his mother Lakshamma. Career Goruru Ramaswami Iyengar was influenced by Indian Independence Movement and became a staunch follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He was jailed by the British administration in 1942 for 2 months for his participation in the Quit India Movement. His son Ramachandra became a martyr for the same cause in 1947. Mukhyamantri Chandru
Honnasandra Narasimhaiah Chandrashekar (born 28 August 1953), known popularly as Mukhyamantri Chandru, is an Indian actor and politician. As an actor, he is known for his work in Kannada theatre and cinema. The sobriquet ''Mukhyamantri'' (Chief Minister) stuck to his name after the play of the same name that sees him portray the title role became widely popular.
